Genocide in real time

I’ll start of by saying it was terrible what Hamas did but in no way shape or form what Israel are doing is acceptable either. I’m sick of reading on these forums and in all the western papers saying that Israel are defending themselves and only doing this to go after Hamas. They have the best security system in the world, they have better ways of finding where Hamas are hiding they don’t need to obliterate thousands of people, entire families and displace millions of people.

the defence of what Israel are doing is sickening to read. It’s already been clarified by America that Biden didn’t see decapitated babies. The journalist that reported has apologised for saying it when it isn’t even true. But Israel has killed so many children, The UN said they gave 24 hour notice for everyone to move out to the south. 24 hours notice - how is this acceptable?! And now reports are coming out that even the south of Gaza is being bombed. People leaving as requested are being killed on the way out. I’m not posting stuff here but h can go online and see it all for yourselves.

when people share on Insta what is happening in Gaza their accounts are being banned, views are down on posts. You can still see for yourselves. Openly officials are calling Palestinians human animals. It’s sickening.

this is ethnic clensing. This is genocide. Defend it however you want - this is what is it.

I have no clue either way and respect your right to be upset.

Why has the above comment by TatianaB been deleted? I read it, She didn’t say anything wrong. Where is free speech unless it advocates the Israeli viewpoint, there isn’t one.

As a nation we have become soft having had no full scale war since 1945 and so the realities of war have come as a shock. The butchery of Israeli citizens of course necessitated a condign response from Israel. Their aim is to wipe out those tunnels under Gaza - destroy all the hidden weaponry and Hamas's army and get the hostages back if they survive.

The horror of war is that you must win it and the enemy must go down, that if you halt the onslaught on the enemy you allow them to regroup or escape. So you don t halt. The destruction of Gaza makes military sense.

Hamas started this war, knowing the Israelis would respond robustly. Why was their attack made, why was it so Dark Age cruel?
There is only one answer. The intention was to start a war, to inflame the Israelis to harshness and bring the wrath of surrounding Muslim.nations.on their heads.

The Americans are talking about containing this this conflict. But the war will get out of hand. Wars always do.

It's like Pol Pot starting the calendar again at Year Zero. The ME didn't begin at the 7th October, neither did Hamas, neither did Gaza, neither did Israel, neither did any of it.

There were terrible crimes being perpetrated before 7th October, by both 'sides'. Death by a thousand cuts is still death. Have a google of child deaths on each side before 7th October.

I agree @Schoolappeal1 .

I was very respectful of the alleged complexity of it all, but the more I read and try to inform myself, from the Hussein-McMahon correspondence onwards, I realise that it’s not that complex after all.

The time when Palestine was a British Mandate is much closer in time to the day I was born than today is. We’ve looked the other way for too long.

@Schoolappeal1

If it was your child being held hostage, you'd want them to do anything and everything to save her / him
You can say you wouldn't, but you would.

Shrewsbury247 · 05/11/2023 06:12

Do you seriously think that the course of action Israel is taking will make it easier to get their hostages back?

But we only saw an end to the troubles in NI when people who had previously been enemies were prepared to sit around a table and talk. Massive sacrifices were made by people on both sides in doing so but it worked.

Why does this necessitate such a bloodthirsty reaction? Many years ago Yasser Arafat and Yitzak Rabin were prepared to sit around a table at talk too. Killing innocents is not a necessity. Extremism always grows out of situations like these and I often feel that if the aforementioned YR hadn't been killed, effectively ending the peace talks, Hammas would never have grown in power the way they have.
