I had an 'accident' on the first of July, when should I do a test?

Anyone else waiting to test? I need a hand to hold!

When is your period due? You should wait until it is late.

An early pregnancy test though if you really can't wait could be taken from around Sunday ime.

Pregnancy tests mostly state that they are reliable from the date your period is late. This is calculated from an assumption that you ovulated 14 days before your period was expected. So from 14 days post accident you would expect a test to show clearly either way. Something like a first response or an ebay early test will generally show as positive from 10 days after the 'accident'. The danger there is that taking into account time taken to implant, sperm's ability to live inside you up to 5 days (so you could conceive 5 days post shag iyswim), concentration of urine, ability of test etc, you could test negative 10 days after the accident and actually be pg, just not quite pg enough to show it up.

So yes, in answer, the 17th would be perfect. Should answer either way. Get a pack of 2 tests or a bundle of cheap ones from ebay. Test on the 17th and then again a week later just to be utterly sure assuming your period hasn't turned up. Chances are that your period will turn up before that's necessary if you aren't pregnant.
