Hi there

I'm completely new to MN and have just decided the time is right to TTC. Apart from the obvious, is there anything else that I should be doing?
One friend said I should be going to see the doctor?!?!?
Any help, advice on doing the right things, would be great, I'm in my 30s and this is my first time.
Thanks

The hardest thing to do is to try and relax and not become obsessed with it all. We are trying for DC2 but no luck so far. I am becoming a bit obsessed tho. Every month is such a disappointment although am trying to be upbeat about it all.

Anyways, I would def recommend getting your prenancy vitamins, keep up folic acid levels and all that stuff.

It can take some time - as everyone always says, you spend most of your life trying NOT to get PG then when you TTC it aint as easy as you thought it would be when you were warned off boys when you were a kid!

Good Luck!

Thanks Paranoid1stTimer
Did you go to the doctor for a check-up before you got PG?
I know what you mean about getting obsessed, it's all I can think about!
Good luck and hope it all happens for you very soon.

I didn't bother seeing the doc first, but you might want to if you're due a smear or something.

Take your folic acid, eat healthily, get enough sleep and good luck!

And get your DH on zinc.

I didn't go to the doc before getting PG (am in the UK and it's not really a regular thing done here unless you are maybe older or have an existing condition IMO). You could call your surgery and ask for advice if you think they would be open to that?

Even when I found out I was pregnant, I went to the doctor and he basically went "Did you do a test? When was your last period? Have you been taking folic acid? So this is planned then... Well congratulations. You will hear from the community midwives in the next few weeks" and that was the last I saw of him. All care was handed over to MW and hospital.

I have the Pregnancy Bible book as well which I found really helpful. Not really aimed at TTC but I bought it anyways since I was obsessing and have started reading it again now we have been TTC for about 6 months.

All the best!

This is all really helpful. Thank you.

So I need to get DH on zinc, think he'll be pretty open to that. He's as on board as I am so I think he'll do whatever it takes.

Does it matter how long you take folic acid for? I mean does it matter say if it ends up taking 6 months or longer to get PG?

Also, in my younger days I discovered I had chlamydia, and whilst it was treated I have no idea how long I had it for before it was discovered. Are there tests to find out if I've sustained any long term damage? Or am I completely over thinking this and getting paranoid?

Im in the same situation, I have been trying for a year but i have already went to my gp as im still not pg. Im on folic acid now for 12 months and DH is on Zinc also. Its hard not to let it run your life, its all we talk about.

Good luck to you
