is it possible that I could be ovulating just a week after my period finished?

My cycle seems to be pretty regular, but as far as I can tell (going on cramps and, ahem, discharge) I seem to be ovulating about a week after my period finishes. Can this even happen? How can I check?

of course, depending on your cycle length, and the length of your period.I've always ovulated a week after my period finishes, and now I'm in my mid 40's it is less than that.

That would be about right, Day1 of your cycle is day1 of your period.

Northernlurker · 05/07/2010 23:32

Yes that sounds likely. You can get ovulation predictor kits but tbh I think it's a bit of a waste of money. If you have a regular cycle then chances are everything is working ok. Egg white like discharge is a pretty good indicator as is being very keen to make love Unless you've been trying to get pregnant for over a year or 6 months if you're coming up to 40 then i would just go with the flow and see what happens.

I think so - if your period lasts 7 days, then you'd ovulate 7 days after on day 14.

my cycle is 28 days and the period itself only lasts about 3. Does that work out?

So you ovulate on about day 10?

TheNextMrsDepp · 05/07/2010 23:40

Abso-bloomin-lutely!

DD2 was conceived literally two days after my period finished. I was astonished as I naively thought the "safe" zone lasted longer than that.

secunda · 06/07/2010 01:03

Yeah about 10 or 11 out of 28. I guess that's not so far off. I forget that you count from day 1 of your period.

ds 2 was conceived somewhere from day 4 to day 11 of my cycle (not sure which exactly, could have been any of those days )

AttilaTheMeerkat · 06/07/2010 07:32

Ovulation can occur earlier, later or not at all in any given cycle. It certainly does not always occur 14 days before the start of the next period (that's a myth).

Yes, I use the CBFM and can ovulate anywhere between day 12 to 18 even though my cycle is always about 32 days.
