What is the best way to detect Ovulation???

Just started TTC no2 and wanted some advice on the most reliable products to detect ovulation, is it worth buying those kits from the shop or is there an DIY way?

Blood tests would give a reliable indicator of whether or not ovulation has occured that month.

I would refrain from using the OPK's as they are beset with problems.

I would chart. You do know that OPKs don't necessarily do the job you buy them for don't you? They detect the LH surge, which can occue whether or not you ov.

I find temping very difficult, but I have learned the physical signs - cervical mucus, ovulation pain and spots on the corresponding side of my face!

hairy I've never heard of the spots one! And how did you figure out that the side of your face was telling you something?

I agree with silver for a quick DIY method. Obviously you can go for blood tests if you suspect a problem in a few months time. Have a look on Fertility Friend (online) and it will talk you through what your body does when it ovulates and what physical signs you might be able to spot (and how to chart etc)

If you really can't resist the lure of OPKs then buy the really cheap online ones (Amazon, about 30 sticks for £5-£6) but bear in mind they don't necessarily do what they are marketed as doing, and can be a bit rubbish.

I get a pain on right side ewcm and spots on right side, or on left side. First I note mid cycle. Then I notice ewcm and then I get the other symptoms! Funny thing is I have never noticed it over 25 yes until I looked fir it!

I once got a ferning detection device. It was cheap online and it means you look through a microscope at your saliva and if it is forming fern shapes, you are ovulating it didn't work for me but some people swear by it! I'm now temping in an attempt to use natural contraception but my temperatures are v erratic as well.
