right, after already having one child you would think i would know this......but......after 4, nearly 5 years of using condoms, dh and i are planning on ttc in the next few weeks.

now, when ttc and after sex, do you still have the same chance of pregnancy if you go to the toilet and ...ahem..wipe??

i cant stand the thought of being all slimy 'down there'!

all answers are gratefully received, although think people will just ignore me in disgust

legs up in the air for 15 mins after, then wipe..........apparently

I was a bum on pillow reader! Sometimes will my legs against the wall.

so, just let it sink in, then wipe?

You know how intriguing that thread title was don't you? I just had to read it!

I have baby wipes and a towel on standby!
After TTC wrap a pillow in a thick towel or two and put your bum and hips on it. Once your pelvis is higher than your heart wipe yourself with a couple of baby wipes. Wait 15+ mins then go to bathroom to pee and get rest out!
I know it may sound a little too detailed for this thread and apologise for it.
It worked for me with DS1 and I do it as otherwise I get a little sore (not to mention feeling slimy! lol) if I don't fully clean myself afterwards.
Hopefully it's worked for me this time too as am currently 4 days late.......!! So excited but trying (rather unsuccessfully) not to get my hopes up following recent miscarriages. Watch this space....... :-)

I do bum in the air, and pelvic floor exercises to "suck it up" as orgasms are a rarety for me. 10 mins of that and then go to the loo as normal - but I have noticed that if I bend double while walking and sit with my belly hanging between my legs (i.e. big arch in my back) that there is less slime to be removed, suggesting more of it has gone where it should, iyswim.

In a word yes to the first question.

Raising legs in the air post intercourse is a myth; it does not help the sperm get to the cervix any quicker!. Enough sperm will get to the cervix from where it will not escape.

I wiped & got on with whatever I was doing..none of this legs in the air/handstand/contortionist stuff!

Most of it hits high up nr the cervix anyway!.

There's no reason to do anything other than have sex and wipe as normal.

No standing on head, bum on pillow stuff necessary.

You do know you can get pg standing up, right? Just the same as you can eat while standing on your head, gravity is not a bar to conception.

Just one thing to add somebody told me that sperm automatically are programmed to swim upwards so you could be confusing them by legs in the air and standing on your head etc though I am a culprit of attempting anything if it gets increases your chances made me think it does make sense so agree with what platiccenturion says that all the bum on pillow stuff is unnecessary.

I read somewhere that an orgasm makes conception easier, although if you're not that lucky (lol) then pelvic floor exercises have similar effect. Sorry for TMI but apparently it works because every time you contract you're 'dipping' your cervix into the sperm and drawing more up towards the womb, ovaries and egg/s. If I remember rightly it increases chances of conception by 12-18%. The same article did say legs in the air is an old wives tail but I still do it just incase (would walk on water if I thought it'd help!! lol).
Anyway, I'm hopeful it's worked for me as currently on CD35 of UCL28 so fingers, toes and eyes crossed for a BFP in a few hours (prob test 8-9am ish).

Have you considered using a MOONCUP following sex?

It will serve two purposes, it will keep yout sperm in place for conception. Also it eliminates the slimy feeling altogether.

Oh dear - where do you lot get your information you do not want the sperm who are too stupid or unable to swim upwards, as they are inferior. You want the strongest swimmer possible, who is genetically perfect to make it.

Suggest you jump up after sex and do some ironing

Or go to sleep. Or have a biscuit.

What are they teaching in schools these days?

Is it in the same class as the eat a pineapple curry and have sex to induce labour talk?

I hope they are not teaching 'how to get pregnant as quickly as possible' in school TBH plastic

It was in Practical Parenting magazine that I read the 'orgasm conception' article. It worked for me. I am blessed with a beautiful 19 month old DS who is ahead on nearly all milestones so assume he wasn't conceived with 'stupid' sperm. Am currently desperately TTC DC2 and will be using the bum on pillow & orgasm/pelvic floor exercises - it worked well last time so hopefully will work well this time too (old wives tale or not!).

Steven Fry told me (Okay so I saw it on QI) that sperm are attracted to the smell of Lily-of-the-Valley and that our eggs smell like this. So those little swimmers with good noses are going to head in the correct direction regardless of which way we point them.

Dellywyn, I watched "The Great Sperm Race" on Channel 4OD, and it said the same thing! Those swimmers love the Lily scent?...:-)was well worth watching!
