Hi

I wonder if anyone can help? I went to see my GP as I feel my cycles are short since coming off the pill in January. I ovulate on CD12/13 and then get spotting on CD21,22,23 before getting a proper period on cd24. My doc thinks this is ok but she said I could have a blood test 7 days before my period to reassure me? What would that kind of test tell me? I have temp shifts so know I am ovulating.......

Also should I have the test 7 days before actual eriod or 7 days before I expect spotting to start?

I felt a bit rushed with the GP so didn't really ask the right questions

Spotting between periods should always be investigated further to ascertain the cause.

Temp shifts do not always indicate ovulation; you can have a temp rise in the second half of the cycle when an egg has not been shed so charting in itself is not infallible. Blood tests are more reliable an indicator of whether or not ovulation has occured that particular month.

Normally blood tests are done on day 2 and day 21 of the cycle. The day 2 will compare your LH level against that of FSH (these should be about the same) and the day 21 will measure progesterone (they like to see a level of 30 or more).
