Bumping as I am 41 and thinking of doing the same so interested to what response this gets.

seashore · 29/06/2010 15:53

Wasn't going to ans because I was 39, but since it'll also bump your thread -

my 2nd at 39 took within 2 moths, gave birth at 40.

I don't drink or smoke and have organic diet. Health hasd a lot to do with it, not that long ago women were always having babies at this age, it was just usually their last couple of dc instead of their 1st.

Whatever you do don't believe that sex every second day myth, check up Zita West on this, the more sex the quicker and easier you will become pregnant.

Good luck

Five months but I miscarried. I'm forty two and conceived five months after stopping the pill. I see this as incredibly positive, depsite the mc, and will be trying again in Sept aftr a couple months on a very very healthy diet!

cece · 29/06/2010 16:49

When I was 40 we had a bit of a drunken night and got pg but mc.

Then at 41 it took us 8 months to get pg with DS2. So gave birth at the age of 42!

Hope88 · 29/06/2010 17:05

Thank you for your answers.

Good luck hairytriangle in Sept.

That sounds good. cece

I can see that miscarriage is quite common Sorry to all of you who must have gone through it.

thanks hope.

Miscarriage happens to 1 in 3 or 1 in 4 pregnancies (depending on which research you read). Sadly, there generally isn't a 'reason' but it's thought that many are due to malfunctions in the fetus.

Although apparently it apparently happens more in older women, pregnancy and safe delivery is very possible into the mid forties, lots of women do it!

I got pregnant at 39 (just - it was about 4 weeks before my 40th). I miscarried as well but got pregnant again a couple of months later and had ds. Now trying for another at age 42. So far it's been 4 months, but I was stil BFing a lot until last month and I think that was affecting my fertility.

hairytriangle · 29/06/2010 22:18

what is BF'ing??? I'm intrigued.

seashore · 30/06/2010 00:35

It means breastfeeding

jabberwocky · 30/06/2010 00:37

On the second month of trying I got pg practically on my 41st birthday

hester · 30/06/2010 03:44

I took me a year to get pregnant at 40. I miscarried, then conceived again 3 months later and carried successfully to term.

I conceived through donor insemination, so it probably took longer than it would have the normal way.

randomimposter · 30/06/2010 07:31

hope
got pg at 39 by happy accident on one drunken evening , DS arrived when I was 40.

Tried again when he turned one, got pg first month, but had a MMC at 13 weeks.
After ERPC it took 3 cycles to get pg again; sadly MMC again at 11 weeks.

Took a couple of months off TTC, then got pg again first month. Am now 5+2; very early days, but fingers crossed.

Good luck.

I have one DC. At 39 and a half I got pregnant in two cycles, but then mc. Still trying 5 months later, and the big 40 is just a week or two away! It's very heartening to hear the stories of people who have babies after 40. Just hope there aren't any more mc waiting for me though.

Aviatrix that is inspiring.
I had set my deadline at 41, but maybe I can extend it a bit!
Which would reduce the stress a bit.

Thanks - I will try!
Glad it worked out for you!

gumblossom · 01/07/2010 00:19

After 7 months of ttc I got pregnant with my son a week after my 41st birthday. He is a very healthy toddler now. I'm still breastfeeding, but have had a return of fertility and am ttc again at 43. Fingers crossed it will happen soon!

gumblossom · 01/07/2010 00:20

Oh - also meant to say, it may have taken 7 months because my DH had a vasectomy reversal, so it can take time to get the numbers up.

Hope88 · 02/07/2010 16:31

Op - I think you're asking a one-sided question becuase you want a particular answer. Sorry to be a complete gloomster but you're asking the people who have managed to conceive over 40 how long it took. Not the ones who've struggled.

I'm 39, took 6 months to conceive, then mc then nothing for the last 10 months. In an ideal world I wouldn't hang about.
