I can't believe we're even talking about havign a third bearing in mind DS2 hardly sleeps still at nearly 2, but we're wondering whether it's better to just dive in, rather than not and regret not doing, IYSWIM.

We have two boys already so a girl next would be fantastic. (I know there's no guarantees and if it was another boy we'd love it just as much, but a change is as good as a rest, or sommat.)

I have that book by Hazel Phillips and we were going to use it last time but it seemed very complicated and we just got on with it anyway and along came DS2. I think 3 is definitely our cut off point though so this is last chance at a daughter.

Has anyone tried and had any success or currently doing it? And I just read on Dr Billing'g website that vinegar douches are the key to having girls, but I have no idea really what a douche is or how you would go about it...or whether you would really want to!

And then you read this and think - what's the point of trying anything when it's all so contradictory?!

bump!

Vinegar douches? Christ, I've heard it all now. Putting acid up there doesn't really appeal.

bintofbohemia · 28/06/2010 11:15

Quite. Chips are one thing. There's some evidence to suggest it works though, allegedly.

I did Shettles (girl) for 5 months before giving up. On the 6th try, we did a cut off at O-2 and then, due to work etc, I reckon it was O+12hrs/1day. So, who knows?!

I have 3 sons and DC4 is a girl. Allegedly .

I'd be a bit on the douche. I wasn't that desperate for a girl!

Good luck.

ILove - I have to admit have only skimmed a few articles so I don't know much about it all - so I don't really understand your post! Can you explain what all the numbery bits mean please?

Oops, sorry, was obsessed for a while and get all geeky about it .

I charted (the website Fertility Friend is good for this) and used ov predictor kits so knew when I ovulated. So, for the first two tries, we dtd from days 8 to 11 of my cycle, then the next three tries days 8 to 12 of my cycle (so O-2 as I ovd on day 14).

Then we gave up and dtd on days 8, 10, 12 and then after I ovulated - probably 12 hours or 1 day. So, what I mean is on the month we managed to conceive our girl ( I had two chemical pregancies and an early mc on the way)we effectively did shettles AND the O+12 method.

Hope that helps! But it probably won't as what I'm saying is I'm not sure which one worked, if either, or if it was just time for our girl and it would have happened anyway. When I had my third boy I thought we were done and didn't actually think we would go for four. Three boys is fab.

bintofbohemia · 29/06/2010 08:26

Ahhhhhhhh, I get it. Yeah, the whole probability thing throws it all out, doesn't it, as the odds of having 4 boys are much less than having a girl in there somewhere, IYSWIM....

I guess at the end of the day you get what you're given, but congratulations on your girl to be! I'm still a bit scared of taking the plunge at all as some days two boys floor me, I'm not sure how I'd deal with more! Is it a shocking adjustment or are you just quite good at it?

I'm half heartedly using Shettles method to ttc a boy. I'm not fussed what we have but dh would love a boy, but not the fuss that goes with the method!!

I post on another forum with a boy/girl board and the success rate of trying for a boy over there is 100% (although I may have screwed that up!), and girls is less. Mainly because the diet is a nightmare I think.

Have a look at in-gender.com if you're interested. It's quite interesting, if a little scary about how obsessed some people can become with ttc one sex or the other.

Bint, we are living in Bahrain at the moment and, to be honest, I doubt we would be having 4 if we were in the UK. I have a lot of domestic help here and I am currently a sahm. I am very very lucky. If I was in the UK, I'd probably still be working and out of the house 12 hours a day just to make ends meet.

BUT, re the 3 children, it was absolutely fine as the gap between 1 and 2 is only 16 months and they're doing everything together, and DS3, who is 2 next week is 3 years younger than DS2 so, it's actually not bad at all.

Bintofbohemia, we did Hazel Philips and it worked for us!!!

Maybee · 05/07/2010 22:19

Has anyone tried this? "Look at this page"/

Maybee · 05/07/2010 22:21

That's my first link ever I came accross this site ages ago but have never actually heard of anyone that has used it. It sounds a little too good to be true me thinks.

Ineedsomesleep · 05/07/2010 22:23

No, after having 2 MCs I was just glad to have a healthy child.
