First Fertility Appointment - What to expect?

We?ve been TTC for 10 months. Both 30 years old. Initial bloods & SA are good. My cycle is a bit erratic (30 ? 60 day cycle), but I am ovulating. Oh, and I also have well-controlled hypothyroidism.

We?ve been putting off our first fertility consultant appointment for a few months, to give us more time to fall preggers naturally. Appointment is now looming for 29-June.

What can I expect from this appointment? Are they going to look at our existing test results, and only 10 months of trying, and 30 years old, and just send us away? Am I wrong to hope for some ?plan of attack? out of this appointment? Are they going to schedule me in for internal/external scan/HSG?

I?m a control-freak by nature, and would like some sort of understanding about the ?depth? of this appointment. I know this sounds condescending, but if the appointment is just going to be ?are you having sex?, ?give it more time?, then what?s the point?

I want to go to this appointment, but feel defeated before I?ve even gone. Hope I?m making a wee bit of sense.

I did this a while ago now but the first appt took a medical history including how often you have sex, forms for bloods, forms for more SA, forms for internal exam and the option for a HSG.

After the results came back with nothing visibly wrong we had some rounds of iui to check everything worked. They may also try clomid to see if anything happens and to give you something to try while everything else processes.

Two things I learned from our first appointment:

Remember to take your partner with you. Because this hadn't been specifically discussed with me, I turned up on my own. I tried to give his medical history but it was a bit tricky.

Everything takes time on the NHS. I was booked in - and this seemed to be routine - for more Day 2/3 bloods, a vaginal ultrasound and an HSG. My bloke was already lined up for an SA, but I'm guessing they might retest if not.

In total, it took a couple of months to get through these, then we had a follow-up appointment to discuss the results.

This is really a "getting to know you" consultation. They should start testing once you're in the system - your GP should be the first line of defence, as it were, so the registrar/consultant shouldn't just discharge you without checking you out.
