Those ovulation tests are not a reliable indicator of ovulation. As you say they only detect the surge, not ovulation and sometimes they detect nothing at all, even though you are ovulating normally.

The average is to ovulate on day 14. Some women ovulate on day 10, some on day 16 or later. Depends on the length of your cycle whether when you ovulate is of any concern or consideration.

It really doesn't matter when I or anybody else ovulates, it's about knowing your cycle. Of course if you don't ovulate till day 16, you'll be showing no signs of the surge yet.

What tests have you had? Are you monitoring cervical mucus or temp or cervical position etc?

Don't panic. As SoH rightly says, ovulation sticks are a bit hit and miss at the best of times.

In the last 4 months I have ovulated on CD10, CD15 and CD20, and there isn't anything wrong with me (not hormonally any way )

sheeplikessleep · 09/06/2010 12:46

I have a 35-36 day cycle and ovulate on day 21-22

ljg72 · 09/06/2010 13:00

I have used them, and they never showed positive!...but had bloods taken and I was ovulating...so I guess they are a bit hit and miss?, good luck.

When I tried ovulation sticks I never got a positive, even though I'm pretty sure I was ovulating (tried for several cycles). I then got a Persona monitor and found that I did get a positive on those. Don't know why, but I think they can be pretty unreliable I'm afraid. Ovulation is supposed to occur about 14 days before the start of your next period, so at day 14 for a woman with a 28 day cycle. You may find your cervical mucous is the best indicator.

Dolly

Please do not use the opk's if on clomid - they will give you a false result if you do so.

Ovulation is less likely to be happening regularly if at all if your periods are irregular in nature (hence the clomid usage).

Are you being monitored whilst on it, you should be if you are not as you have no way of knowing whether its doing its job or not otherwise. It may be also that you need a higher dosage than what you're on currently.
Unfortunately as well some women can become clomid resistant.

Ovulation can occur earlier, later or not at all in ANY given cycle; the 14 days before thing quoted is based on a 28 day cycle and even women with 28 day cycles do not always ovulate 2 weeks beforehand. This 14 days before thing therefore is a poor guideline.

hey all! wow thank you for your replies!!!!! I am only on my 1st course of 50mg clomid, and as some of you rightly say, i have NO IDEA what my normal cycle length is... we were going to do the clomid tests for 10 days or so.... but maybe not now?

I've been prescribed Clomid again and need to get a blood test done on day 22 which will show if I've probably ovulated.

Although last time round I ended up doing blood tests for 4 months trying to get them 5 days before my period and not being psychic/regular enough so never established for sure if I ovulated or not - probably did as somehow I got pregnant 4 months after the Clomid despite no periods at all...

Am I right in thinking that if we need Clomid in the first place that cycles are likely to be quite long if they get established at all?

Dolly99 · 15/06/2010 20:43

notcitrus - when is day 22?- i have my day 21 bloods on fri...
