Conflicting advice about low morphology

Hi, I'm a newbie here so hope this is posted alright!! We have been trying to conceive for two years (second child, DS 3) and found out recently that my DH has low morphology (10%) which explains why it isn't happening. But some of my reading has said that you can't do anything about it and that you need IVF and donor sperm and then others have said it is nothing to worry about.

I'm really confused and extremely panicking! I'm 39!!! Arggghhh!!!

Any help welcome. xxxxx

hi jenny welcome to mn.

my dp has low morphology, and a poor count. i will post his results for you too see the difference that taking vits made for him. evn with his levels we have managed to conceive 5 times in last 2 yrs. admittedly the first 4 have ended in mc but this one appears to be a sticky one (fingers crossed)

1st test
count-10m
morphology-1%
motility-37%

2nd test 4 months later and 3.5 months after starting vits

count-16m
morphology-2%
motility-67%

aslong as there are some healthy sperm there you can get pg. has he had a second test done?

Thanks for your reply mumatron, I'm somewhat in a panicked state and this is reassuring! No he hasn't had his second test yet as we have to leave 6 weeks inbetween. Everything else was OK, motility was fast progressive 90% and count was 150 mill. think they are OK.just morphology poor. Did you find conflicting info when you googled? Some sites even said that this score = sterility. MAybe I should stop googling. I guess you are proof it can improve! I have bought some pycnogenol and fertility vitamins for him yesterday! No alcohol either! Fingers crossed. You must be super fertile to catch 5 times!

I'm happy to hear you are pregnant! Good luck! Is this your first?

my dp takes fertilaid and pycnogenal, and he eats peruvian maca everyday.

this will be my 3rd, his 1st.

google is the devil! and fwiw, i was told our only chance would be ivf with icsi. my theory was that as long as i could cope with some more miscarriages one of the good sperm was bound to get through.

i guess you would need to self fund any attempt at ivf? so unfair isn't it? how would you feel about trying it?
