my partner had this result and were just waiting for the repeat test to see if the result is the same. obviously if it isnt thats good, if it is then a few questions i would like to know but feel uneasy asking the consultant if he doesnt if you know what i mean.
1 - does this mean he has always had no sperm or could it go to 0 easily??

2 - he has a almost 8 year old daughter, does this mean his ex lied and shes most likely not his??

3 - what causes no sperm? all i can find online is genetic or vasectomy?

4 - do we have any hope of concieving without doner sperm by any way other than through ivf ie medicines that could increase it or anything? i know its not likely but got to ask!

5 - could a hernia he had (cant remember details) be anything to do with it - it was years ago but after his "daughter" was concieved

we cant afford ivf and as i have a child from a preious relationship wouldnt get it on nhs plus i have fertility issues myself but all consultant has said is loose weight and we will do more tests etc but at the moment they wont say anymore, plus if dp has no chance of concieving we dont want to go down doner route so kind of falls on his results at moment, if his repeat results come back normal then ill be loosing weight for the forseeable future and then see what they say!! his ex has a bit of history with a different child in presuming fatherhood hence why it could be possible dp is the girls dad if that looks likely but until now its never been brought up. the ex is not approachable at all so cant ask her in any way if she has doubts over her daughters father etc!

thanks in advance to anyone who can help i just want to be prepared to help support dp if this is the case without asking the questions for him as such, also he is quite keen to believe that first tests must be wrong but i dunno if its that easy for hospitals to just not see sperm!?!

Did it say no visible sperm or no viable sperm?

No visible sperm seen - it is possible for the lab not to find any sperm AND they will have looked carefully. Did your partner have an inguinal hernia? This could have messed things up down there. Also with the pressure of the test he may not have ejaculated properly, this is quite common and why the test should be repeated. It is normal for a count to vary but to drop to apparently zero is concerning. If his next one is OK, then don't worry about this zero one, it is likely he didn't do the deed properly.

No Viable sperm seen means no living sperm, so sperm were there but not alive. This can be a result of illness (eg high temp/fever in the last 3 months) or if anything was used to help produce the sample - lots of common lubricants are toxic to sperm and should not be used when producing samples for investigations. Again a repeat needs to be done.
