Trying to conceive for over a year. Got pregnant with my daughters straight away. Anyone else fall easily before and then struggle?

I took over a year the first time, then 2 months, then about 9 months and currently I've been trying for 8 months. I am getting a bit fed up with it now.

bizzylizzy79 · 26/05/2010 17:20

Yeah it's tough. Feel like it's never going to happen but don't know how to stop trying. Did the doctors give any reasons to you for why it may have taken longer?

Three years... miscarried.

namehelpneeded · 26/05/2010 17:52

1st time - 5months
2nd time - 7 cycles, 8months

shelleee · 26/05/2010 20:19

1st time- 9 months
2nd time - 15 months miscarried
gap of 7 yrs not ttc
3rd time - 10 months

HeadFairy · 26/05/2010 20:25

I was the opposite. Took 18 months first time, second time took 2 months but miscarried, third time took 1 month but miscarried, fourth time took 2 months - dd born last New Years Eve.

whizzymummy · 26/05/2010 21:04

Wouldn't say I had an easy ride for the first two - various months of nothing happening and three miscarriages but on the positive side it only ever seemed to take a few months max to fall pg.

Different story now, am TTC3 - driving me INSANE, 9 months so far!

LauraNorder · 26/05/2010 21:06

DD1 - straight away, honeymoon baby

DS - 5 months

DD2 - a year (nearly gave up!)

poppy34 · 26/05/2010 21:09

ds1 - 6 months
dd1 - 3 months
latest one - 13 months (And had thought was going to need help but had a surprise)

poppy34 · 26/05/2010 21:10

bizzy we were told that dh had low sperm count ...but clearly not that low

Hopefully · 26/05/2010 21:21

PG1 - first month trying, DS born, no drama
PG2 - first month trying, MC at 6 weeks
Currently 6 months on from MC and no success. Am broken!

ClaireDeLoon · 26/05/2010 21:25

PG1 - unplanned, mc
PG2 - two years, mc
PG3 - 5 months, currently too early to predict an outcome

I went to see the doc for some infertility checks after a year or so of trying and they called it 'secondary infertility' on the blood test forms which was depressing as hell as I didn't even have a baby to show for it being secondary.

bizzylizzy79 · 27/05/2010 10:09

I feel like we should just give up and like it's never going to happen but I so badly want it to. My other half is so excited and wants to talk about names and stuff and it just makes it feel worse.

bizzylizzy79 · 27/05/2010 10:18

Poppy how long into trying did the doctors say his sperm count was low? Did you have tests? We're you doing anything different when you fell after 13 months.... so many questions, sorry

OP posts:
SambuccaKelly · 27/05/2010 10:20

1 month - DS

4 months (miscarriage at 8 weeks)

2 months - DD

Have been trying to conceive again for a year with no luck

bizzylizzy79 · 27/05/2010 10:41

So when do you decide it's time for extra help or just give up? Always said if it doesn't happen it's just one of those things but so impossible not to keep thinking about it.

ClaireDeLoon · 27/05/2010 12:40

They recommend you go to the doctors after a year of trying, or six months if you are over 35. Given you've been trying a year I would go to see the doctor now. They will book you in for the initial blood tests around day 3 and day 21 of your cycle and also send your DH/P for a sperm test. Good luck with it, I hope you get a sympathetic doctor, makes the world of difference.

whizzymummy · 27/05/2010 14:13

Know how you feel bizzylizzy. I am so desperate for a 3rd. Have already had blood tests that are all fine for me. Suppose next step would be a sperm test for DH ... but this may sound strange, I'm not sure what I'd do if we found anything wrong (with either of us). Would we get treatment? Give up (not sure can think about that now)? For now I'm happy to bury my head in the sand and carry on trying. Suppose if I get to a year then we'll see how we go. Just had a false positive preg test last week which gives me hope something is happening event at any stage - I was a week late on my period, tested +ve then started period 3 days later...
Am resigned to continuing in limbo for now!

gingertoo · 27/05/2010 14:23

Yes, I had a hell of a job TTC #4 after falling pregnant during the first 2 or 3 cycles with the first 3 DCs.

It took 15 months, no idea why, but I'm now 17 weeks pregnant with #4...

thumbwitch · 27/05/2010 14:25

DS - 3m
then tried for over a year, got pg, lost it at 8w.
Now on 5th m of trying again.
Age against me now - but hormones all good (had them tested recently)
Fingers crossed.

Kathyjelly · 27/05/2010 14:27

I was never trying. 11 years after treatment for ovarian tumour, up popped ds.

I know it's not similar Bizzy but even if you are told there's something less than ideal, the most unexpected things happen. Especially when you aren't stressing about it.

Good luck.

DS took 39 cycles, with DD, we hit jackpot the first month. My mum conceived my sister on honeymoon then took 4 years to get me. Then got preg 4 years later accidentally, miscarried, and got pregnant again accidentally when I was 10, so 3 times of 4 she got preg really easily, the 4th took her years.
