Hi everyone,
Will have to be abit graphic here but am completely confused.
Have been ttc since Xmas and no joy as yet - not due on next period for another 10 days however, on Saturday had a bad stomach ache and felt sick, on Sunday noticed brown discharge - this carried on throughout yesterday and then late last ngith period arrived............What does this mean? What is the brown discharge about? Why has period arrived when not due for antoher 10 days?

Any idea's welcome

Thanks

I know from personal experience, that sometimes if I've been unwell it has been enough to trigger an early period - usually by a week, and which is also a bit lighter than normal. Not sure if it sounds the same as you though. It usually happens if I've not eaten properly for a couple of days due to lack of appetite.

Might be worth checking with your doctor, or phone NHS Direct.

Dont worry. Seems to happen a lot to me. I had a year of brownish discharge and light bleeding, never any proper periods. Now know that I have polycystic ovaries, but periods are settling back to normal now. I think it was coming off the pill that mucked me up for a bit. I wouldn't worry. The blood is probably brown as it is old blood (taken a long time to flow down the vag and turned brown in the process). It was just a slow start to your period I would say. If you are usually regular I wouldn't worry. Keep an eye on yourself next month and if you get pains again, ring the doc.

Thanks Egypt - Situation changed now - period gone again and back to the brown discharge - have been having a look on the net and some people appear to experience the sma ein early stages of pregnancy - what so u think? Also, the last 4 nights i have had to get up from bed to go to the toilet which i never have to do - what do u think this means?

Could it be mid cycle bleeding? I had this last year for a couple of months, lack of iron and being run down can cause it. May be worth getting it checked or get a smear test done? A friend of mine had this too and discovered she'd got pollips and had to have them removed (v. quick day surgery). HTH.

Jemma7, I'm not sure whether to post this, because I really don't want to raise your hopes, if you're not pregnant - but I think there's a slight possibility it could be an implantation bleed - i.e. an early sign of pregnancy. I did have one when I conceived my son. I think it was 1 day of bleeding, about a week before I was due. But, I can't remember the details. I suppose it depends what happens next - whether the brown discharge carries on or not. I couldn't do any harm to ask your GP could it? I hope the waiting isn't too awful.

spikeycat · 09/07/2003 20:26

Jane101 - that is exactly what happened to me this month, Did a test last week as I felt soooo tired and it was positive, so that can happen...
Fingers crossed for you jemma7

Hi Jemma
Just noticed that i replied to your message on different thread and didnt realise that it was you i replied to on here yesterday! It may well be an implantation bleed. I just experienced brownish blood for days on end, so obv wasnt for me. May be for you. When was your last p? Could it be about 2 weeks after? If so, the time seems right for you to have conceived. Fingers crossed.

Thanks everyone, had this conversation with a girlfriend last night and this is what happened to her when she was expecting ds - last period was 18th June which last for 8 days - next one not due until at least 15th July.
Everything stopped yesterday, discharge gone & period gone.
Following my conversation with a girlfriend last night i did a test whcih showed up as negative - however, have now establish that it could be too early to pick up on the hormones if they are there!!
How long should i wait before doing a test - should i leave it until the 15th to see if one arrives?

Jemma
You will prob have to wait until the day you thought you were due for P. You must be excited. It does sound positive.! Good luck

Jemma7 · 11/07/2003 08:43

I am very excited! have been experiencing really bad headache's sinc ethe weekend and a friend pointed out to me this morning that alot of people get this when they are PG! Very very excited, just a waiting game now!!!!

Jemma7 - sounds quite positive, good luck.

quackers · 11/07/2003 10:10

Good luck jemma 7, when do you have to wiat until? I am waiting until Wednesday and will test as I think I had imp bleed in the night and this am. Good luck chuck and to all of you!!

StripyMouse · 11/07/2003 10:12

Jemma7 - just seen this thread. With both my pregnancies I suffered short bleeding that was brown (old) blood, I now think it was implantation bleeding. Don?t want to get your hopes up but it does sound possible. Have you had any other symptoms? - metallic taste, sore/tingly boobs, low dull tummy ache, tired... Although it is worth remembering that many pregnancy symptoms are fairly similar to those you get before a period any way! (Sorry - don?t want to put a dampener on your excitment) Good luck, take it easy - plenty of sleep, avoid obvious stuff like pate, stinky cheese, too much booze blah blah and let us know how you get on.

Jemma7 · 11/07/2003 13:38

Thanks for all your advise girls - really really trying not to get my hopes up but dh is worse than i am about excitment - he's making me feel even more excited.
Only trouble is got to wait until next Weds at least - think the suspense is going to kill me!
Have had toher symptoms like tireness, headache's, have had a really dull tummy ache (each day has made me sure period would arrive but hasn't yet) - however, headache & tirenesss could be due to working too hard at the mo.
Will have to wait and see but it's going to be such a long wait.
Good luck Quackers!!!

Gosh looks like it me and you then on Wednesday. Oh the torture! My DH is sort of quiet about it but when he saw my nips he couldn't help but smile. He just worries about losing it afetr the last one we lost 3 months ago. The weekend will be tough! I was so tempted to buy an early test but thought I can't really do that till Mon so will wait till Wed now!

Jemma7 · 11/07/2003 14:16

Know exactly how you feel quackers - am going to feel like a right plonker if it turns out i'm not pg though - dh, best friend etc all seem to be certain....................
Sorry to hear about the last pregnancy, bet it was terrible - have u been ttc for long?

OP posts:
quackers · 11/07/2003 14:52

Thanks Jemma7! Yes we'll look like total loonies!! I'm pretty sure now though since the little bleed last night. I have been very lucky and this is my first month trying properly since m/c. I lost the last one at 15 weeks, that was nearly 4 months ago but could only start this month cos of probs afterwards. I have a DD who is nearly 3 but would dearly love for her to have a lttle bro or sis. So you have a son, how old is he?

Jemma7 · 11/07/2003 15:35

I wish, no kids for me - we are trying for the first - has always been a case of dh desperately wanting a child but i wanted to wait due to age, length of relationship etc. Now we are both desperate (Oh that's a bit harsh isn't it?)
All jokes a side we have been trying since December but considering i had been on the pill for 2 years before we can't really expect things to happen straight away. Doesn't halp that i now have a gorgeous 3 year old nephew, and 2 beautiful nieces ( 2 months & 6 months) - love them all dearly but tends to make everything that much harder when it isn't our month!

OP posts:
quackers · 11/07/2003 15:38

Apologies, I even went back into the history to check. You must have been talking about your nephew!!! Well, this could be it!!Hop I didn't offend you.

Jemma7 · 11/07/2003 16:12

Course u haven't offended quackers, nice to talk to someone about it that isn't directly involved - nice to get some external advice! I just never want to get into a situation where ttc takes over your life, of course i desperately want children but don't want it to be what ou lives revolve around until it happens!
Anyway, it's my birthday next Sunday and am meant to be going out on the saturday with the girlies but am unsure what to do about drinking - obviously don't want to harm anything that may be there but don't want to spend my birthday like a sap if there is nothig there - Any suggestions?

OP posts:
quackers · 11/07/2003 16:16

You sap you!!! !! Just kidding. I'm facing the same dilemma! Hubbys bday Sunday too!!!!!! happy bday for then!!! Supposed ti be going out but if I am at least he will know and we can do something else. What do you tell other people!! Well, either drive or say you're on antibiotics!!! Works for about a week and then poeple guess!!!!
