Understanding Ovulation symptoms

Hello all

I'm new on this Conception forum so apologies if this has been asked before.
I've just started ttc, so I am paying particular attention to Ov symptoms all of a sudden.
I noticed on approx CD16 ewcm and then 2 or 3 days later I'm getting Ov pains (I've had these symptoms for years (i.e.e once a month for years, not constantly lol) but never noticed the timing/order before). So I am trying to understand what is happening when... Does ewcm usually appear before ovulation starts? WOuld love to understand exactly what is going on on the inside if you see what I mean. And then map it back to the best days for ttc...

Thanks in advance - love this particular forum already

Hello and welcome!

Yes EWCM can be present for up to a week preceeding ovulation (it keeps sperm alive and helps them travel up you, so can do this for a few days whilst waiting for the egg).

If you use ovulation tests and get positives, those will appear 24-36hrs before ovulation as they detect the hormone surge that causes ovulation (hormone LH I think - it would say on the tests).

Pains I would imagine are pretty much at the point you ov, though I'm not too sure on those.

If you are charting your temperatures, you can then expect to see a temperature spike (first of the raised temperatures) on the day after ovulation. This is because your progresterone levels go up post ovulation.

Combining all those symptoms should enable you to pinpoint the day of ovulation. From what you've said it sounds like around day 18-19 ish.

You are fertile for up to about 5 days prior to ovulation, the day of ovulation and the day after, so those are the days to concentrate your efforts on!

Best of luck! If you get into all this charting marlarky, do come and join us on the Charter's Anonymous thread

I know this thread was a while ago but if anyone can help then that would be great!
I had a positive on my opk test the Thursday just gone but there was very little cm. My temperature went from 95.72F on the Monday to 35.4 when I got the positive result then 96.8F which I thought would be the peak but crept up to 97.52F yesterday and down to 97.16F today. Yesterday I had stretchy cm which started clear then yellowy then creamy by the evening. What's happening?! I did another opk to see if the last positive was wrong and I'm actually ovulating now but it was negative. I know I sound obsessive but that's because I am! I lost my 1st baby when I was 5 months pregnant and his due date is next week. The only way to lessen the pain even slightly would be to be pregnant again.

sayit I am very sorry for your loss. Can I just ask, are you getting some help with that?

No. Nobody will help me now but I've got my husband.
