lap and dye after ectopic pregnancy-what is your advice?

Hi, I'm completely new to this so don't know the shorthand.
I had an ectopic and lost my left tube 18 months ago. We've been trying pretty much ever since but haven't fallen pg. I have just been to doc who recommended a lap and dye. I know my remaining right tube is undamaged but that my right ovary has cysts.
Any advice people? Can having a lap and dye improve my chancing of getting pg?
I feel like I'm getting to the point where I feel hopeless-like it's never going to happen.

Hi BBE, am afraid I don't have any experience of conceiving with only one tube, but I have had a lap & dye and it did give my consultant a really good idea as to what's going on in there. I would also think you would need scans / blood tests to check what's happening with ovulation and which ovary you are ovulating from (I only ever ovulate from one ovary due to other ovary being Polycystic)

Has your GP suggested you be referred to a fertility consultant? 18 months of trying is quite a while.

Good luck

Well I basically had to push him in to referring us he just kept saying IVF is so expensive etc. I said I needed some answers and wasn't willing to carry on trying aimlessly with what seems to be no results. I have had a scan which showed the remaining fallopian tube is attached to a cystic ovary-my thoughts are that I'm possibly not ovulating from that side and the side where I do ovulate from has no tube! I got pregnant with only 1 month of trying last time so 18 months makes me think there must be something wrong-I guess I'll find out. How long did it take your referral to come through etc?

Hi BBE, i actually went privately so I think I had to wait a week for my initial consultation. I'm afraid I;m not sure what the waiting lists are like on the NHS, I think it varies from area to area. I think you have definitely done the right thing pushing for a referral and wish you lots of luck and hope you don't have to wait too long to see a consultant.

Hi BBE, I have no experience of ttc with one tube/ectopics etc but thought it might be helpful to point you in the direction of this thread. I'm sure people on there will have similar experiences to you that they would be willing to share.

HelenLouisey-thanks for your advice I'm hoping that at least by having the lap and dye we get some answer- its the not knowing thats the worst. Good luck with your journey.

splittheteaagain-thanks so much for the link to the other thread-I have found some people who are going through or have been through the same as me and right now that is exactly what I need.
