Evening ladies, hope everyone enjoyed the sunshine and are planning to do so again at the weekend.
4ever I cant believe the time to meet your lo is here! Like everyone else, I am so excited for you! As promised, here's the short version of my birth story. I know you asked why I was induced but I find it easier to explain the whole story. Apologies to everyone else who know the story. You can just skip this bit
On 40+3 at 2am on Tuesday morning, I felt some leaking. I phoned the labour ward who told me to come in. The midwife examined me and didnt think it was amniotic fluid, so they sent me home. I got home at 5am and thats when the contractions started. I think the midwife must have given me involuntary sweep. I dont know if you remember, but DH was out of work for a whole month, but that day he had 2 interviews lined up! He didnt want go, but I told my mum and sister to come and sit with me so I wouldnt be alone. The pain was more in my back, and was bearable. I just kept on bouncing on my gym ball the whole day and watching daytime TV! We were keeping track of the contractions by using an excel spreadsheet on our laptop (DH is an accountant!) By 8pm that evening, the contractions were 5 minutes apart, so I rang the labour ward, but they told me not to come in until the contractions were three minutes apart. By around 10pm, the pain was getting worse, so me, DH and my mum left for the hospital, but when we got there there were no rooms available so we had to wait in the waiting room. My mum took a sneaky photo of me and DH sleeping while sitting on the chairs, its a really funny photo (but not for posting on here!) I got taken in a room at 11pm and immediately puked up, and puked upa few more times that night. I started using gas and air, but was mobile, walking around and using the hospital gym ball. By 2am Wednesday (I know, I'm such a wuss!) I asked for an epidural, dont read the next bit if you're scared of needles, but when they put in the needle, they tell you to make sure you DONT MOVE, but of course when someone says that, all you can think of is moving. Anyway, they couldnt get it in, so I asked them to give me pethidine instead. I had two doses of that, but by 11am they said they wanted to induce me as I wasnt progressing fast enough. They wanted to give me the drip form of induction, and with that they have to give you an epidural. But this time a different anaethatist (sp?) came and used a totally different technique, with me lying on my side instead of sitting with shoulders slumped, and also because I was so tired and sleepy, I didnt move at all, and the needle went in straight away. I have to stay, after the epidural felt so good, and I wouldnt stop talk after that! My mum had to tell me to stop talking and reserve my energy for later on They also put a cathetar in, as now I couldnt move around. They also broke my waters at some point with a knitting-needle type thingie, but I cant remember at what point of the process, sorry! They gave me 4 top-ups of the epidural, but by around 6.30pm the effects of the epidural was wearing off, despite the top-ups, so they asked me if I wanted to have an emergency c-section. As I was in pain again and so tired, as I'd been awake with contractions for around 37 hours, I just agreed. I was awake, but the whole of my bottom half was totally numb. DH was by my side. It felt so strange, because you could feel them doing things around your stomach area, but obviously you cant feel the full thing. Saara was born at 7.51pm on Wednesday. Again dont read the next bit if you're squeamish, but I then lost 3 litres of blood and it took them a long time trying to stop the bleeding and for my blood to stop clotting. I remember at this point I felt so sleepy, so DH told me to sleep, but I said, I was scared that if I fell asleep, I wouldnt wake up ever I later found out at my 6 week check-up that if they didnt stop the bleeding they would have had to perform a hysterectomy on me, so thank the Lord they were able to stop it.
They showed me Saara when she was born but I couldnt hold her because of all the drama that was going on. She was so beautiful with so much hair! They then bought her into the recovery room, and I tried to hard to fight the sleep that was overcoming me to be able to hold my precious bundle. They then took back into the labour ward rather than the post-natal ward and my mum was able to stay the night. However again I couldnt sleep, but this time it was because I had so much adrenaline pumping inside of me and I was so excited because I finally met my lo I had a blood transfusion the next day
Wow, this has gone on for too long, and all you asked me was why I was induced! Sorry if theres tmi here. I'll spare you the horrors I went through in the post-natal ward for 3 days after as thats another long story!
