Miscarriage and trying again

Hi, I had my miscarriage confirmed at the hospital yesterday after a week of light then heavy bleeding and clots. I think I passed the remainder of my pregnancy on Thursday and I'm still bleeding but I'm hoping this should start to clear up. The sonographer said to try in a couple of months, my womb and ovaries looked perfectly ok and I have no remaining tissue etc left over so don't need a D&C. Although very disappointed I am relieved I know for definate that I've miscarried and feel positive about trying again. I wanted to hear from anyone who has started trying to conceive soon after miscarriage. The reason for this is I'd like to try sooner rather then later (obviously not until I've stopped bleeding and get a negative pregnancy test.) But normally my cycle are quite long and I've heard you can be very fertile after miscarriage.

Sorry to hear about your m/c, when i had my m/c i also wanted to try again sooner. So after the bleeding stopped i did try, and fell pregnant same month as my m/c, with no period in between.

I see why not, go for it if you are ready, my ds is 8 months old now, and yes you are more fertile after a m/c.

Sorry to hear about your M/C Nancy10 How far on were you if you don't mind me asking.

I M/C'd very early, after it was confirmed, the docs said in so many words get home and try again! So we dived in pretty much straight away as soon as I got my next period.

I suppose it's different if it was later on, but I've heard it's only for dating purposes or to ensure that you are emotionally OK.

Hopefully some the ladies here can give you some better advice than me!

Apart from waiting as you said for negative test and bleeding to stop, there is no physical reason to wait longer. As long as mentally you are ready to be pregnant again so soon it is fine. Pregnancy after miscarriage is very hard, the innocence of just enjoying being pregnant is gone and fear and anxiety is there instead. But I am another that pnce managed to concieve with no period before being pregnant again (DS2 now 2 years old). It is hard having your miscarriage date as your "LMP" for the next pregnancy emotionally but otherwise fine.

Thanks for your replies. I was 10 weeks pregnant Obviously I'm really upset and disappointed but I do want to try again. I have had 2 sucessful pregnancies, so I'm putting it down to bad luck. I've carried on with the folic acid and obviously because I'm still bleeding we can't try. But by trying it give you hope that it'll happen and hopefully we'll be ok. That's really good to hear about your quick pregnancies.

Nancy - I think trying again is a positive thing - but please don't beat yourself up and torture yourself if it doesn't happen right away.

There's always this talk of "you're so much more fertile after a mc" - I had an early mc last year and when I didn't fall in the 3 subsequent months I felt quite cheated and that there was something wrong with me. So whilst it's great to hear positive stories - try not to pressurise yourself.

sorry to hear that Nancy10; your hormones would be in a bit of a whilrwind at the moment and it's not that you can't conceive straight afterwards once you ovultate again (after all a lot of miscarriages happen with a normal period and we don't even notice!) but you will put your body under a lot of additional stress and pregnancy by itself it difficult enough! I know it's really hard but look after yourself, get stronger and I'm sure it will happen for you!

I'm in the same position at the moment, at the moment I am thinking rather than trying as soon as bleeding stops etc, I will go down the route of not not trying if you get my meaning...I just want to relax at the moment and what will be will be.

I had a miscarriage 3 weeks ago ? at 7 weeks. We decided not to have a break and just get on with it again, as you say ? trying without really thinking about it. Now 3 weeks on I am starting to have similar symptoms to those I had when I was pregnant: slightly nauseous ? but only a bit, butterflies in my tummy ? but not all the time, going to the loo a lot ? but is it any different to usual? I am really afraid of raising my hopes too high too soon.
I have a Clearblue test upstairs ready to use but am not sure how long to wait. Should I wait 28 days from date of mc or leave it longer? How long does it take for the pregnancy hormones to subside completely so you don?t get a residual positive form last pregnancy?
More than likely this is all worrying pointlessly and period will arrive before I do anything else. Any thoughts?

Sorry to here about your miscarriages . It's been a week now and yesterday my bleeding stopped. I'm so glad as I know it can go on for weeks. I did a test this morning and it's still positive, I think the test line is lighter. I'm going to wait until I get a negative result just so I know the HCG hormone from my miscarriage has gone and I'll know the next BFP is a definate pregnancy. I've bought the cheap tests on ebay so we don't bankrupt ourselves buying them in the shop. littleyellowchicken did you get a negative after miscarriage? It could be your period and even if it is that is good that your body is back to normal.

I started bleeding last Wednesday night (12/5/10) and a scan on Friday showed a missed miscarriage. I've nearly stopped bleeding and plan to start trying again straight away (when the bleeding does stop). I feel that concentrating on the future is a positive step forward for me. My husband and I were devestated about the miscarriage and we both agree that we have a real conviction and commitment to having another baby. I don't want my miscarriage to be my last experience of pregnancy as it's such a sad, negative memory to look back on. This baby was very much wanted and the desire to have a forth child is burning strongly. I won't let this sad loss colour the rest of my life. sorry to hear about your mcs, it such a sad and physically draining thing to go through.

I am in a similar situation, in that I had a mc recently and would like to start ttc again asap. However I thought I had stopped bleeding after 10 days of bleeding but then 12 days later I started heavily bleeding again and no it was not my period! I bleed for another 10 days and now 8 weeks post my mc I finally have a real period. But I was due a smear tear in Jan that I missed because I had just fallen preg and told I have to wait another 4 weeks min to have smear now! And going on holiday with dh next week during ovalatipb spell! arragh! Really want to start trying again but I should wait shouldn't I?
