We plan on TTC at the end of this year. I came off pill in Oct due to migraines and have been using condoms since then, but do not really like them. I think that using the FAM method would mean that we can go condomless sometimes and will also help me to get to know my cycles etc for when we do start TTC.

I am about to buy the Toni Weschler book from amazon that I have heard so much about - what else do I need? Thermometre?? Can anyone recommend one and do you have any other advice?

TIA

I bought cheapest thermometer I could find from Superdrug and photocopied the charts at the back of the book.

Other than that I kept a pencil and notepad by my bed. I would note my temperature in the morning and add it to chart later - sometimes a few days a a time.

Can't think of anything else.

You could also use the FertilityFriend.com website, which is free and has online tutorials which give clear and concise info about TTC using the FAM method. I'd also recommend the Taking Charge of your Fertility book as well.

I have been using FAM for about seven years, initally to get pregnant twice but have been using it now for four years to avoid pregnancy. I'd only recommend it if falling pregnant wouldn't be a disaster for you and your partner.

I follow the six over three rule, which is no unprotected sex six days before ovulation and three days after, although as I have been doing this for a number of years I know what I'm doing (mostly!)

By temping and charting and noting your cervical mucus changes you will begin to see when you are ovulating in any cycle. As the months pass you'll be noting the patterns and will be able to predict when you are most likely to ovulate.

Good luck with it

I would also recommend fertility friend.com, they are ab fab and you can do your charting online. Also would recommend the VIP membership, its great to chat to other ladies who are all TTC.
I have only ever charted while TTC so cant comment as a contraceptive method, but as FJJ says, dont use it unless you dont mind getting knocked up a couple of months sooner than planned.........
Your cycle should have stabilised by now after coming off the pill, so would prob. be a good plan to get to know your cycle now before you start ttc.

I should add that you'll have to keep using the condoms for the first three months or so as you start temping and charting as you become familiar with your cycle.
