subject line pretty much says it all -

I'm 42, so I can't say that this is a huge surprise...But actually, the number itself (3.3!) IS something of a surprise, because they last time I had the test done two years ago, it was 23+...I'd hoped for a more gradual decline, I guess.

Anyway, just wanted to come on here to vent a but as I'm sitting all alone in my office, no one I can really call.

sorry don't know much about AMH levels, other than the quick google I did but didn't want you to go unanswered...

The page I found tho suggested over 3 was high so maybe a different scale?

How did you find out your levels? GP? What was their opinion on ttc (I assume thats what you are doing hence on conception threads)?
I feel for you but presume there is still chance if it's detecting something is there not?

Hopefully someone more knowing will be along soon...

thanks for googling on my behalf- that's very kind.

I had the tests done in a fertility clinic but haven't been able to speak to the specialist yet about them. (She's stranded abroad It's a pretty disastrous result, according to the clinic's information. I count myself so lucky to have an amazing DD, and never thought I'd want a second...but loving her so much, I really want to give her a sibling. It's a very painful realization that I can't do that for her.

hi there

I had an AMH test and it was 2.6 but I have gone on to (so far) have successful IVF.

I really hate the AMH test though as they seem to take the result as gospel and I am not sure they should to be honest. I was told I would be a poor responder to fertility drugs and while I wasn't up there with the women getting 20+ follicles I still managed to produce a fair amount.

AMH tests ate horrible - I was devastated by mine 3 years ago - I had just turned 34 and had been TTC for nearly 2 years and my AMH came back as 10 (I believe 2-12 is low ) Anyway I did get pg 2 months after the test. Have now been trying again for 10 months and dare not get tested again as I am sure it will be minus 10 or something!

Anyway wanted to say I researched the test loads at the time and it is only 70% correct afaik. Also I recently heard Dr Winston (the IVF doc) talking about these "new" tests on a radio program and he said he felt it was important to remember the test results are merely a snapshot in time and the body is remarkable and can change day to day month to month. I have read that an antral-follicle scan is much more reliable so might be worth asking for one of those?

I feel your pain though, I so want another and am finding it hard to believe it may never happen .

seaside, I agree. I read about the 70% accuracy thing and that gave me faith. I think they cause more anxiety than neccesary and it annoys me that doctors/clinics put so much faith in them. Mine went from 13 to 2.6 in 9 months!

I definitely like the idea of them being fallible....It's just so demoralizing to get this lousy number.

I (we) haven't decided whether we're going to pursue IVF - DD was conceived naturally, and I guess I was unconsciously hoping that the tests would come back with encouraging enough results that we wouldn't feel we had to jump in to IVF right away (which is what it seems like now). I'm scared of IVF, tbh- not the procedure(s), but the emotional roller coaster.
