Hi

I'm thinking about having another child - I have one 2.5 year old already and I'm now 41!

What was your age when you had your latest child?

Juggling the idea of going or not going for it!

am 42, trying for #2 at present, DS is 2.4 now. Been trying for over a year, MC just before Christmas, am a bit concernced but just keep trying. Only took 3months trying to get DS - I was 39 at the time. Bit harder this time around.

PoppetOne · 01/04/2010 13:58

I had DD at 38, shes PFB and don't want any more (at the moment).

Had 1 MC prior but put that down to Coeliac Disease and severe deficiency of all vitamins & minerals 1 body needs to survive, nevermind 2!

Easy conception and fabby pregnancy - never been healthier or felt better in my life!

Rockbird · 01/04/2010 14:12

Had DD at 36, first attempt, no problems. Am 38.5 and next month we start ttc number 2. Fingers crossed for the same results but realistic enough to expect a longer wait.

Pipsqueak99 · 01/04/2010 14:17

Babysbreath, you're still very young :-).
I had my first, naturally conceived, at the age of 43!
Go for it

solo · 01/04/2010 15:39

TIBBYCHOP, I fell pg for the first time after 12 years which ended in a MMC(I was 31). I had been on the IVF list, but had conceived without it amazingly. It then took another two years before I fell pg again and had Ds at 34...another MC at 41 and Dd at almost 43. All naturally even though I was told at 31(before first conception)that I'd never conceive without assistance.

I'm on a fab thread for women over 40 who are ttc. We're all at very different stages and doing different things but we all would very much like a child and are in our 40's. Come and join us if you decide to go ahead or if you are just curious.

I'm totally rubbish at technology (had to ask my 9 year old how to use an MP3 player the other day!), so wont be able to do a proper link but the name of the thread is:-

Continuing conceptions and follicling ahead of Feisty, Fabulous Forty somethings.

Might see you there.

As for me, I'm 43 and TTC #3. I have a 9 year old a 7 year old and I had a MMC at 12 weeks in February.

I know the risks of MC are greater at my age and it does concern me - especially after my experience in Feb and I do think that you need to be aware of that and consider it. But at the end of the day, I've decided to go for it again.

Wow - thank you very much for all responses. It has been really interesting reading all your comments.

Hippychicks66 - I will try and look at the website you mentioned (Continuing conceptions and follicling ahead of Feisty, Fabulous Forty somethings).

Happy Easter to everyone.

I am 32 (well, soon 33), trying for my first for 7 months now. I was not worried to start with but now that it is taking a while I am REALLY starting to worry. I suppose also because now I will be 33, which for some reason seems so much worse than 32... Went to the GP who said:"32! That's really young!" At least that is comforting. Thruth be told most of our friends had kids when they were between 32 - 40, but then they all conceived straight away! Much easier than me, so it seems like age actually does not matter...

solo · 01/04/2010 18:08

MountTheFairy, most of my friends of the same age as me are now grandparents! now that's scary!
Age doesn't matter, it's down to your own personal body clock and a bit of luck and judgement. Good luck anyway!

MountTheFairy · 01/04/2010 18:19

Wow! Thanks Solo, I am hoping my own personal body clock is ok :-(

I had twins at 37 and my last child when I was 40.7 months.

Go for it !

Meggiemo · 19/04/2010 16:26

My great aunt had her first at 48 naturally conceived - thought she was going through menopause, she had been trying for years but at the time there wasn't much help available.

longlady16 · 24/01/2011 17:12

So pleased I looked at this thread, I'm 38 and TTC 2nd child. It's really given me a great sense of optimism!! Thanks ladies!:o

Karbea · 24/01/2011 17:21

I'm 37 and trying for our first one...

Strix · 24/01/2011 17:31

I am 41 and just had number 3. He's lovely. Grin

Stangirl · 25/01/2011 12:53

DD at 41 and next DC due in July when i will be 42.

seashore · 25/01/2011 13:00

Had dd at 37 yrs and ds at 40 yrs and yep Tibbychop both naturally and they were speedy conceptions.

I would read up on Zita West though as there is no time to spare and make sure that the myth about doing it only every other day is abandoned, Zita explains this well - the more a man has sex the more sperm he produces.

tothesea · 25/01/2011 13:00

I am 42 and currently 32 weeks pregnant with DS2.
It did take two years of TTC though and we had given up all hope when finally got BFP!

FXXX · 25/01/2011 13:05

Tothesea: congratulations on your dc. Any tips for those of us getting on a bit then? Especially ones with no kids yet?

I'm 39 trying to conceive number 2. Lost 2 pregnancies last year (one at 19 weeks, one at 8 weeks). Been trying for 6 months but with no luck (had been lucky enough to conceive very quickly until now). Am guessing it's just age but am going for tests to make sure nothing was messed up after last m/c. Thoroughly encouraged by this thread's stories Smile

zebedeethezebra · 25/01/2011 13:57

I had DS a week before my 43rd birthday (natural conception).

I'm now a week past my 44th birthday and TTC#2. Had a miscarriage in December. I think I may be kidding myself that I can possibly become pregnant still, but I live in some vain hope.

Think I may look at the other thread too.

tothesea · 27/01/2011 15:52

Thanks FXXX, I feel very lucky. I'm afraid the only tip I have is to give up completely, as in properly give up, not pretend to give up. I had handed my notice in at work, and accepted a place at college - all part of getting over lack of pregnancy.
The first month that I did not use Clearblue ovulation thingy and paid no attention to CD or ovulation or when AF was due.... was the month I fell pregnant. Still can't quite believe it to be honest..
Apart from that I cut back hugely on caffeine and alcohol, ate loads of fresh food. I also had acupuncture which was about 6 months before I got BFP but I believe it helped me on so many levels that I think it may have also helped me get PG
HTH and I wish you all the luck in the world.
