So, I thought I'd take it upon myself to kickstart the new thread. As the title suggests, this is a wonderful home full of the bravest, funniest and most inspirational women on Mumsnet, who are always ready to lend an ear and a virtual glass of wine.

The new thread is kicked off with 3 bfps in 3 days, so here's to more love and luck along the way

xx

Hello for today

Normally I would say it's a little early for some Pimms, but feeling a bit down today so going to help myself, thank Scotch.

Just done a pregnancy test to check that HCG levels are back to normal, and although it was negative and therefore things are okay, it still feels depressing. We had a lovely weekend with some friends coming to stay with their 5 month old, but it was hard too. It just made me realise that I really want another baby (although I know we're lucky already). They were telling of us how many of our friends are pregnant and both DH and I were feeling very sad and quiet.

We've decided to wait for 2 cycles rather than 3 because I have arthritis and it's really flaring up. I'm on the maximum dose of medication that is okay for getting pregnant. (well as much as being on any on medication when TTC can be) If it gets worse then I'll have to change to methrexate which is a definate no-no for TCC, so I'm terrified of it getting any worse.

On the postive side, I think my cycle is kicking in again - although counting ahead that will mean RTD (although probably not really RTD if not TCC) during our 1st child free holiday -

digitalgirl · 20/04/2010 13:44

GP has referred me! Yay! Two mc's in less than 6 months plus I had a lot of bleeding in my first trimester with ds so he reckons that's enough to warrant talking to a gynae. So pleased he didn't just fob me off. Although I'm obviously hoping that it's a complete waste of time and that there's absolutely no reason why my next pregnancy won't be successful.

In my excitement at being referred I completely forgot to ask about early ante-natal support. But hoping that if I'm having gynae appointments that they'll keep a close eye on me should i manage to score a bfp anytime soon.

Might not even bother with testing this weekend, as think bleeding has finished (hate hate hate bfns). Quicker than last time, but maybe because it stopped developing even earlier.

Waves to everyone. Am missing the sunshine today working in a basement studio. Have had a huge chocolate brownie to make up for it.

dorcas111 · 20/04/2010 17:18

Hi Freezing, I did a test yesterday to confirm my hcg levels had returned to normal and got a negative. Which I know is a 'good' thing, but it felt like it set me back emotionally about three weeks. There's just something horrible about having it confirmed- you know that you are not pregnant but it feels like that stupid little stick is really rubbing your nose in it. Drank lots of vino last night with friends, not sure if that helped as still feel very low today but I just thought screw it, I'm not pregnant I'm going to have a drink. Might go and find some ripe french cheese to ingest next.

Cheepz · 20/04/2010 18:17

ah but dorcus once you have a bfn you can try again, i have the opposite problem - i am nearly 3 weeks past ERPC and still getting faint BFP ... granted its way lighter than the last one so fading, but still enough that if I was trying I would be on here shouting about very faint but possible BFP and getting all excited - in some ways it means you can't draw a line under the mc and move forward, it reminds you you were pregnant and now youre not but still not back to normal which means longer to wait until we can get a RTD and longer before we can try again!

Its a no win situation really, but try and see it as a positive.

I recommend a bit chunk of pate, followed up by prawns and topped off with some chilled champers and a double espresso!

BUnderTheBonnet · 20/04/2010 18:18

I'm with Dorcas on the snooty little smug-arse sticks. BFNs suck, even when they're "good" ones.

I'm still off work - did anyone else have really foul headaches after they MCed? My head feels like it's about to come off whenever I stand up.

Congrats to everyone with great news, and commiserations to everyone with sad news too.

Moofold · 20/04/2010 19:22

No one even told me to do pregnancy tests after the MC and ERPC? Why do they ask you to do that? Can understand it just one more awful reminder and kick in the teeth though.

Littlemiss I misread your post and thought you were suggesting we all enjoy Scotch's nipples!! That happens to me a lot - I sometimes wonder if I have a mutated form of Tourettes where I see rude/ swear words that just aren't there!

malteser1981 · 20/04/2010 19:25

If any of you are 'bulk buying' I've just got the coupon code for access diagnostics valid until 29/04/10 to save 10%. save10
Just out it in at the checkout. Hope it;s useful.

WestYorkshireGirl · 20/04/2010 19:43

Dorcas sorry you are feeling low. It is all part of the grieving process and all I can say is that it does get better in time.

Teaser what are you bulk buying?

Digitalgirl I am really pleased you have been referred & brownie points to DH for going with you.

freezing I sorry you are feeling down and I sympathise that it's harder when you are around babies. My dog and cats are lovely but there's just something so different about babies..

All those in the 2WW, that's another day gone!

Red your research sounds interesting. Working for English Heritage, the history stuff is just my thing.

Well, I've come out of my doom and gloom and gone back to work even though I still have a sore throat.
Got blood test results back from Drs and I have to go back next Tues for a re-test as the results 'weren't in the correct range'. When pressed the receptionist didn't know what this meant either! When I asked about the HCG one she said I wasn't pg (which I knew). I had the bloods done 16 hours after I started bleeding, but I don't know how long it takes for your HCG to go down after a mc - by the look of things on here, some weeks so maybe I wasn't pg. The Dr did say it could be iron deficiency causing the tiredness, queasiness, heavy bleeding etc. When I have had the second tests done I will go back and ask what it all means.

So, if I wasn't pg and didn't mc, I don't feel so bad or useless as lots of people have 1 mc (which is a very bad thing), but I think I'd started to think there may be something wrong. Now I have a bit of hope again and don't think we should take a break, I just need to try to chill out a bit more....

On that note, I had a lovely visit to one of our country houses today - the sun was shining and although it was cold I looked at the flowers and thought life isn't that bad really.

That's my bit of self-help for today and I'm trying to stick with it!

Gi1da · 20/04/2010 19:48

at Scotch's nipples, Moof I'm glad you did a double take too!

Great news Digi answers are good and even if they test and the answer is well, no idea, everything looks fine, then you know you were just very very unlucky.

Crap about being asked to pee on sticks, that's just emotional thumbscrews . Are they providing sticks or are you having to buy them (yet more )? I had my levels checked by a couple of blood tests and that seemed good enough for them.

West glad you are feeling better, in all ways

MrsPretty strength to you and MrPretty. I know you're in dark days right now, but in a little way I hope it's good to know you have a whole team rooting for you.

Garden update - yup, the local felines are LOVING the new veg patch toilet. Will get back out there at the weekend, hoe it, de-poo it then am planning a crazy string cat-confuzzulator contraption - have you seen Entrapment? Like the lasers but a bit more crochet

Am happy to move down the list but please don't take my locker key off me yet. I feel at home here and I'd only lurk as I want to know how you all are!

dorcas111 · 20/04/2010 20:04

Cheepz you're right, it is better to have got a BFN. I tested a week after the mc, then two weeks, both positive and that was equally hard, the stick telling me I was pregnant and knowing I'm not. Basically everything about this mc business is rubbish! I'm sorry that things are taking so long for you to get back to normal and hope they do soon.
Moofold I don't know why they ask you to do it- to make absolutely sure you are not pregnant still? They have called me too to make sure- I need to call them back to let them know but can't face it right now.

malteser1981 · 20/04/2010 20:04

Westyorkshire - very cheap and reliable ovulation and pregnancy tests.

Freezingmyarseoff · 20/04/2010 20:31

cheepz you always so positive, you're a real inspiration - thank you. I will try to look at bfn as drawing under the past and looking forward to the summer and my flowering wisteria and house extension and a bfp.

Moofold I had a couple of blood tests at the EPu and they said HCG was coming down as expected but they asked me to do a pregnancy test one week after last blood test to check HCG had returned to "normal, non-pregnant" levels. They asked me to pay for my own sticks, but my sister works in a hospital and managed to get some for me (shhh)- which really helps because I'm crap at POAS and usually use at least 2 at a time before I get it right Can't even contemplate POAS every single day for ovulation tests so not an option for me when we start TTC again

WYG were you on the Aug 2010 thread? I think I remember seeing you there. Annoying for you to have to go back for a re-test but at least they may be able to give you some more answers

Digital that's positive to get referred, a good step in the right direction.

Gl1da at the crochet

Bunder hope the headaches go away very soon

Dorcas my sympathies with you, going through the same thing. Have a large Gin and Tonic - I am

Waves to Alba, Red, Clareanna, Jolster, Littlemiss, Viv and MrsPretty and everyone else. Always worry I've missed someone on the namecheck

randomimposter · 20/04/2010 21:17

Gilda stay as long as you like - you make us larf. Know you will, but please wear gloves when you are gardening yes?

Good news Digi. Alba, if there are any smarties going, would LOVE some. After all, only smarties have the answer .

Freezing - lucky you with wisteria, I am SOOOOOOOOOOO ungreenfingered - boo.

Hope all ok - off to bed soon, tired out from gardening (badly), and DS cutting out his daytime nap. Before he's 2? I did NOT order one of those...

WestYorkshireGirl · 20/04/2010 21:35

*Teaser" Thanks. How do the ovulation tests work then or is it obvious e.g. you POAS then they tell you when you ov and therefore when to SWI? Do you have to do one a day?

Freezing I started the quieter July 2010 thread so wasn't on August. Occasionally look at it which is all a bit weird considering when I started it I never dreamed of having a mc.

Am impressed at all the talk of gardening, Jollster and Gilda - certainly the right thing to be doing in the sunshine.

Am off to Northumberland tomorrow so better sign off now and get some kip!

lucysnowe · 20/04/2010 21:43

WYG yes I think so re tests, they tell you when you are going to ov. Never worked for me though, I usually use CM as a guideline..

I never had to take any tests after my mmc but I had an EPRC so maybe not needed? Bled for ages though and this cycle seems to have gone on for ever... with nothing to see for it. (BTW Am really pleased to be able to vent a bit here as I have no other recourse, but please do feel free to ignore nasty self-pity. )

clareanna · 20/04/2010 22:06

Freezing, jolls, cheepz- we have a huge wisteria that pretty much coves front of house. al petrified of it- never know how/ when to prune it- it even gets in under the sash windows into our bedroom!! Sometimes think it will go all little shop of horrors on us ... Also be careful of other plants near it you have to constantly feed the soil or else they die!!!

Gi1da- pmsl at cat crochet ! Best thing Is large dog...

Dorcas, scotch, Sorry things are so rough for you at the mo- it is a very real grieving process and there are unfortunately lots of little set backs along the way- bfns. Are just one of them

wyg - have a lovely time in northumberland - hope the sun shines for you

bunder- I had headaches too after erpc- gp said was general anaesthetic side effect. Drink lots of water and take a decent iron supplement- that helped me, but it has taken about 3 months for me to really feel I've got my old energy and concentration levels back- take care x

Cheepz · 20/04/2010 22:07

ooooh freezing our new house has a wisteria all up the front - i will look forward to moving in and having that flowering too - its beautiful!! I know because we are buying my folks house!!!! will have to totally revamp it but its a lovely house - and at least we won't get gazumped

jolls noone orders one of those - no nap before two, holy cow. We had a 'didn't sleep through at all until 18 months and consistently until 2 and 1/2' if we get another one of those I am buying in a night nanny - I don't care if we need to remortgage.

right to bed with book for me - up for treadmill at 615am - can you believe i came home at lunch for a run - talk about control freak - i can control what i eat and my excercise so boy am i controlling it, fad will be over next week and i will be lying in before a full english and doublefrothyfullfatextrashotdoublewhippedmocahafrappelatte

malteser1981 · 20/04/2010 22:10

Westyorkshire - yep in a nutshell, poas and you get two lines when you are ovulating. CM good indication for me too, but I obsess like the reassurance.
Northumberland eh? You'll be pleased to know it's clear blue skies, but pack some woolies because it's still freezing!

dorcas111 · 21/04/2010 08:32

Westyorkshiregirl, we're off to Northumberland too, on Saturday for a whole week. Can't wait, we are so looking forward to getting away and I love it up there. I'm from the area, although I live down south now, but spent many happy times on the freezing bracing beaches of the north east.
Also, can anyone tell me, whilst I was still getting BFPs from tests done after my mc, does that mean I would not have been ovulating? And will it delay my RTD arriving if it took a while for hcg to drop? I first started bleeding four weeks ago tomorrow ( ), so if it was a normal cycle I would be expecting my period at the end of this week, but I am a bit confused.
Oh and good morning everyone else!

Margie32 · 21/04/2010 08:40

Please can I join? Am very new to Mumsnet, but your group sounds like just the thing I need. Am currently to be found ranting, weeping, laughing and swigging wine all at the same time.

Have no ideas what letters I have to put after my name, but my stats are: lost my first baby at 18.5 weeks on March 8th, still got no period, day 44 without period.

Cheepz · 21/04/2010 09:14

ohh margie thats shite, poor you, first baby too, thats so tough.

welcome, always a bummer to welcome new people, but good to find support and understanding all the same

Freezingmyarseoff · 21/04/2010 09:31

Margie Sorry that you have to join but welcome also.

Viv and Clareanna were you biking in the Peaks? am very jealous if you were. Haven't managed to get out my bike in ages, and nowhere very hilly with ace singletrack when I do.

Totally understand the wisteria fears, it's taken me 4 years of trying to get the hang of the pruning to get flowers, even though its ancient and has been flowering for years before we moved here (or that's what neighbours say)

Cheepz I don't think I've congratulated you on the house yet - congrats! That's brave moving into your folks old house. Did you grow up in it too?

Hi to everyone else

Well it's another lovely day here, another day for me to stare out of the window whilst pretending concentrating on work

Cheepz · 21/04/2010 11:04

I did grow up in it from about 6! so initially might be abit wierd.

But theres a whole refurb and extension to do an its in such a lovely town, still commutable to london for dh and for me too, but with woods behind and just in a really nice road

and it will be a different home for DH and DS and I (and hopefully another little one at some point) so I am not too worried - have spoken to loads of people and actually quite alot of people have done it - either their parnts or partners parents houses.

Will be abit odd going back to old stomping ground but as I said, lovely town and close to Guildford so good shopping and transport and the like

Goodluckbear · 21/04/2010 12:55

Margie - so sorry for your loss, glad you found this thread, they are a lovely lot here!!

Malteaser - good to see you on the grads list! I am having a scan in a bit over a week, when I will be 7 weeks 3 days. I hope to see a bean the right size with a heartbeat and whatnot, but am now shitting myself as I was awake a lot in the night with awful cramps. They are pretty mild now, no bleeding, but this is what happened last time - i.e. being woken up cramping in the night! Gah!! I'm hoping it's to do with my guts rather than the bean - clinging to any hope now... Can't do anything until the scan now though, trying to be calm and not think about it, bit difficult with frickin cramps reminding me.

Dorcas - it's really confusing, I think it could take another couple of weeks before RTD again. It took me 5 weeks post ERPC to get my period (which is probably over 6 weeks since the bleeding had first started). Sorry that isn't much help

At least it's sunny on the outside though!!

xxxx
