Thought I'd set us up a new home! kettle's on and choc tin open.

This is a lucky start to our new thread: 2 BFPs and a fantastic fertilisation rate from Dueling!

Boobs and biscuits to everyone

KiwiKat · 02/04/2010 22:18

Italian, to paraphrase my post on the Old Broads' Board - bloody brilliant! x

gingerwine · 03/04/2010 00:29

Italian I loved your post. It made great reading. Hooray for Emerald and Laurel and a little prayer for Tyler. Relax and listen to Zita. I loaded one of her CDs onto my ipod today in readiness for next week.

Horton I'm glad you have had a positive experience. Nice to hear from people I remember from when I was last here too.

Fionab41 Welcome. This is a great place to be for support and advice and a few laughs too at times. All the best in your search for a donor. I'm no expert in egg donors I'm afraid but I wish you lots of luck.

Rosie and Kiwikat Bless you both. Perfect stories to snap me out of my negativity. And you are so right Italian it is of course just biology. I will keep repeating "It only takes one, it only takes one" until I have convinced myself.

Wishing you all a very Happy Easter. Lots of fertile eggs, settled embryos and BFPs to us all!!

Italiangreyhound · 03/04/2010 02:35

DuelingFanjo hurrah for the grade 2 girls, but like when I got my degree, we all called them Desmonds, in those days, Desmond Tutu! (2:2). When is your testing date?

Gingwine thank you. Thank you for thinking of Tyler, I know it is a little crazy to be upset about one that didn?t make it. But it is funny how this whole process has so many stages and at each stage you need to re-evaluate. How many follicles, eggs, embryos, etc. Now I really do understand more of why bumpless was so sad at the scan. But I must admit that now, a bit of time later I am just able to concentrate on Emerald and Laurel and not worry too much about little Tyler. Everyone copes differently and not everyone would want to go down the route I have (of naming them), although for me it has worked, it has helped me to visualise positively and not feel too sad! What was weird was that right from the word go, even before the embies were inside my body, I was already thinking of them as mine and although I am so grateful for our perfect donor I am already thinking in terms of my embies just as I think I would if I had started with my own eggs. I call our donor 'perfect' because I remember the co-ordinator nurse saying she was not a perfect match! But for us she has come up with the goods! Anyway,

Just wanted you all to see (after my mega post) that I can post about other people! So here goes....

Gingwine Thinking of you. I so remember the old follicle hunt from my IUI days - were they bigger or what was happening. Nerve-shredding. I am crossing everything for you except my legs! And a quick arrow prayer for lots of good follicles, the kind that count. I do picture you as gingered haired, is it real or does that refer to a drink. I also picture you as Scottish but then I pictured Isle as Scottish too!

Islegrin thinking of you, on your little Hawaiian island.

Idreaminlindtchocolatebun... I really hope your migraine goes. It?s amazing but since having the treatment my sinus headaches have stopped! What about the bleeding. You have been in the wars.

A big prayer for us all for BFPs and positively brilliant times ahead!

Bumpless how ?ya doin??

Horton great news. It does really help if you feel at home at your clinic. At ours the staff are always kind and friendly and accessible, as long as you have a bit of perseverance (obviously to be successful the clinic has to have enough patients to cover costs so you know they have other people to see). But I always feel they have time for me. And the nurse who scanned me remembered more about my trial embryo transfer than I did! Our nurse this week, who helped me when we first arrived and left, actually gave me two hugs when we left, I think I poked her in the head with my earring both times, so she was compassionate and brave!

gleegeekgleek Thanks, DH has actually been really good and is even dealing with my slightly mad hormones!!

KiwiKat Thanks.

  • Cerubina, how are you feeling?

MercenaryMom doing any action scenes?

riggly where abouts are you up to? Last I heard you were down regging and sais something about feeling really tired and run down. Really hope you are feeling better.

babybarrister, MrsNorthman, Amberc how?s it going? PerfectDromedary Fairygodmother1 what news? And Flibbertywidget are you still around?

Italiangreyhound · 03/04/2010 02:55

Kiwi sweet potato conundrum? Dastardly Google.....

Sweet potatoes good or bad?

If you can't find the word or the search is not good I save them as word files and then search. BUT I am not sure I am any closer to knowing the truth!

Goodnight all

Horton · 03/04/2010 12:11

Horton - do you mind me asking how old you are?

I'm 41, 42 in November.

MercenaryMom · 03/04/2010 13:51

Hi all! Just a quick message to say hurrah! and well done! to Italian. Sending you special sticky chocolate boobs for your 2ww!

So, how did choose Emerald Jake and Laurel Daisy as names?

Welcome to sgibbo and fionab. I should warn you however, that this thread quickly becomes addictive.

RosieB I'm so glad your 12 week scan went well - thanks for letting us know how you're getting on.

Horton I'm glad your appointment went so well. Its amazing how these things can boost you up (as well as being very emotional).

Big waves to everyone else and passing around the cream eggs - although you're not allowed to eat them until tomorrow!

gingerwine · 03/04/2010 20:59

Just a quickie.

Italian My name is because I joined mumsnet one christmas and I love drinking gingerwine at christmas time. I am a red head though although it is much more reddish brown than the flaming red it was when I was little! Not scottish though. Part english, part welsh and living in the midlands! How about you? Do you have italian blood in your veins?

Had a lovely day today. Relaxing at my parents for the day. We have an easter egg hunt to do for my DS's tomorrow. (I have 2 DS's from my first marriage, my DH and I would love a little one together to complete the family!). I am counting down the injections left to do - only two menopur and two cetrotide left and then my trigger shot hopefully. Hooray!

Happy Easter .

Italiangreyhound · 04/04/2010 02:23

gingerwine Hi, I love ginger something and whisky, but no alcohol at the moment, actually it seems quite easy not to be able to drink alcohol.

We had a great day today, saw my sister and her family and my mum, the weather was good while we were outside and only rained while we were inside. The kids, my dd and my two nephews, were incredible noisy and we did what we did last time, ran like mad for the last train.

"Do you have Italian blood in your veins?"

  • No, I always wanted to have something exotic about me but I am pretty much pure bred English for the last few generations. Although my dad once had an Italian girlfriend and so I think my mum used to joke that I could have been part Italian! I chose the name because I liked the image of the graceful Italian greyhound dogs, and would love to portray myself as that! I was once incredibly lithe and graceful, but of course at the time I was very shy and thought I looked terrible. Now I probably look terrible but I have bags of confidence most of the time! Crazy isn't it. How we spend our 'best' physical years feeling insecure!

Good luck for your trigger shot, all the very best. How old are DSs?

MercenaryMom thanks so much for the special sticky chocolate boobs . I must admit I don't feel an urge to test at all. I kind of don't want it to end so I am almost going to have to force myself to test in two weeks!

"...how did you choose Emerald Jake and Laurel Daisy as names?"

  • I?ll refer to them as Emerald and Laurel in future but thanks for remembering their full names! Emerald - I love the colour green, it used to be my favourite as a kid, I chose Jake as it?s a name I like but we won?t use (it?s the name my friend would love and she is unlikely to have any kids). I never usually suggest anyone else should avoid a name but for me, as my dear friend has never had kids and probably never will, I just felt we would not use that name ? not in my top 5 anyway but you know what I mean!). One of the December flowers is the Laurel and if (big IF) we are successful, our due date would be in December (also I always think my dad looked a bit like Laurel out of Laurel and Hardy!). I'm not sure but I think I mentioned before that I chose Daisy as it is also a name I like but we won?t use as DH doesn?t like it and once had a dog called Daisy when he was a child!

Do you think Emerald Jake sounds like a superhero and Laurel Daisy sounds like a county and western singer? I do. I like the unreality of the names for me; it is a rather unreal time. I feel in one sense pregnant, and in one sense not! Maybe it does not help that I have a bit tummy partly due to irritable bowel bloating. So if I said I was pregnant with twins, people would believe me!

So there is the story.

Tyler and Willow were just unisex names I liked and, again, DH would not choose these as he is quite traditional when it comes to names!

Long-winded story but thanks for asking! As I say, some people would not put this much thought into it and would not find it helpful to do this ? but I do! What does that say about me, overly complicated, I would imagine!

sgibbo how are you doing?

fionab I doubt you have got much further on with your investigations into the world of donor eggs, but good luck and feel free to ask anything you want to.

I have discovered caramel eggs and prefer them to crème eggs, now having done the taste test I can confirm that Galaxy ones are my favourite and my dh likes the Cadbury ones! I love doing taste tests! But since I have done the mindful eating of a raison I am actually losing weight! In spite of the odd chocolate hit!

Idreaminlindtchocolatebun... How are you doing? Migraine gone? Could the chocolate be adding to it or doesn?t it bear/bare thinking about! ? Which bear/bare should it be?? I should know!

Mojangles How's it going?

KiwiKat How's it going for you too? Do you feel like you have a super secret at work? Less stressed than before?

Cerubina hi, how are you feeling?

Regards to Horton, Islegrin, riggly and all.

Chocolate to all

Idreaminlindtchocolatebunnies · 04/04/2010 23:15

Hi everyone and Happy Easter!

Italian In answer to your question, the problem at the clinic has been that most ladies there are on a long protocol, but unusually I am on a short flare protocol (due to my PCOS), therefore every time the nurses give me some instructions or make me an appointment they assume that I am on the long protocol. Apparently from now on I have to make it very clear to every nurse that I am on a short protocol. So the onus is on me then?..

I haven?t watched the last 2 OBEM yet ? I think I might fit that in tomorrow.

Apologies for my short post on Friday after you announced your news. Your news is fantastic ? I am SO pleased for you. I will count down the days until 18th April with you. I hope that you are still taking it easy and that you have had a lovely, special, weekend.

BTW, I don?t think that you are deluded at all ? I think your (hopefully unnecessary) plan is really positive

My migraine has gone now, thank you. They are triggered by stress and hormones ? I think this one was triggered by the drop in hormones after I finished with the Microgynon (I used to get completely debilitating migraines on my week?s break when I was on the pill ? ha ha [ironic, that was a waste of time laugh]). Strangely I actually find that a swift couple of square of dark chocolate and an espresso can cut an attack off at the pass, but this one rather crept up on me. I was much better after a couple of migraleve and a nice cup of tea!

Duelingfanjo - did your acupuncture session help to calm you down? Have you spotted any symptoms other than what was on Gleegeekgleek?s rather amusing list?

Welcome to Sgibbo (good luck with your 2WW), fionab41 (sorry to hear your story so far ? I really hope you find what you need and have a happy ending xx)

Grumpywine (I have been enjoying some lovely ginger chocolate today!) How are you doing? Please do not feel disappointed with yourself about your follicles, or blame yourself. I?m pleased for you that you have 3 good sized follies ? there are quite a few ladies who have been on this thread who have got pregnant from only a couple of follicles

Rosiebeagle - great to hear that you?re doing so well ? an inspiration to us all!

KiwiKat - I hope that you are progressing well and that Bitch Boss from Hell is not causing you too many problems (you could always get MercenaryMom to take her out with a coathanger if she is?)

Horton - good luck with the next stage of your journey xxx

Hi to Mojangles, Amberc, Cerubina, MercenaryMom (thanks for the cream eggs!), Islegrin & PenguinDreams (if they are still lurking), riggly (what are you up to, Mrs?), babybarrister, MrsNorthman, perfectdromedary and Fairygodmother1.

Well my news is ? I started my period!!! Contrary to my previous reports of stopping bleeding, I only actually managed to stop for a couple of hours, so I had a bit of trouble working out when I actually started my period. I had a bit of a false start on Thursday afternoon when (TMI ALERT) I had actual blood rather than the brown discharge I had been having. I tried to call the clinic to let them know but luckily they were shut ? luckily because the blood disappeared as quickly as it had come. I had an acupuncture session on Saturday morning and then I started my period yesterday afternoon. I waited a couple of hours before calling the IVF on-call number at the clinic (after what had happened on Thursday) and I have an appointment for my day 2 scan tomorrow morning at 9am ? and then I can finally start my cycle!! I am actually allowing myself to be excited now!!

Will check back in tomorrow to let you know how I get on!

Night night! xxxxx

Italiangreyhound · 05/04/2010 02:16

Idreaminlindtchocolatebun... Hi mate, how's it going. Have you tried the Cadbury Caramel bunnies? They are yummy - maybe not as posh as Lindt but I love 'em.

How annoying that the problem at the clinic is that you are on a short flare protocol, I like the word flare in there; it makes it sound almost like a fashion accessory! But it is a serious issue, and it seems really annoying that the onus is on you to explain the situation to everyone. I often used to call the clinic from work and I would hate to have to explain everything to the nurses down the phone.

Yes, I am taking it easy. My DH is looking after me.

Gingerwine How are those follicles, when do you find out and get them out?!

Dueling when do you test?

KiwiKat, how's it going? Any thoughts on sweet potatoes?

Horton Have I missed anything, have you got a start date for treatment?

Mojangles how did you feel during your two week wait? Or is that a silly question?

MercenaryMom how's it going?

Sgibbo when do you test?

Went to church this morning and they had a kind of ?open mike? in that you could share what God was doing in your life from the front (I mean speaking and not singing!). I thanked God for his kindness to me; I didn't go into any details about what it was. (I am just very moved that God has given me this chance to be pregnant again, I know technically I'm not yet but there you go!) I got quite emotional just saying a few brief words - and several people thanked me for sharing. We had a relaxing day and I am enjoying my great big chocolate egg from lovely DH and DD (Galaxy egg with a bag each of Revels, Maltesers and Minstrels, yum)

Happy Easter to all of you above plus riggly, Amberc, Cerubina, MercenaryMom, Islegrin, Rosie, PenguinDreams, babybarrister, MrsNorthman, perfectdromedary and Fairygodmother1, all the best. Have I missed anyone, shout if I have?

My boobs are aching and I have gone off tea a bit but with the amount of drugs in my system that could be anything. Anyway, no more from me for the night!

Waves and best wishes to all

Italiangreyhound · 05/04/2010 02:28

PS Idreaminlindtchocolatebun... I mean how annoying that you need to explain everything not ho annoying to have POCS, although I am sure it is annoying too. All the very best wishes to you for treatment. I really hope you will get on well.

Another friend from RL has told me of her BFP after a very bumpy road to get there and I am thrilled. Such good news. Nighty, night.

DuelingFanjo · 05/04/2010 11:44

Hi all

No symptoms and I test on Saturday. Really not feeling hopeful today

gingerwine · 05/04/2010 14:19

Hi everyone.

Duelling Sorry you are feeling that way. I well remember a very negative feeling creeping up on me but being realistic you still just don't know yet. No symptoms means no AF symptoms so try and keep a glimmer of hope going. I have my fingers crossed for you.

Italian Sounds like you have had a great Easter and are really positive. Lots of lovely chocolate at yours too by the sound of things!! My boys are 10 and 6 and currently running around the garden chasing each other with foam swords!

Idream Hooray! You can start soon. It has taken a while with all that bleeding. Love the change to my name - very apt although not so grumpy today! Ginger chocolates - yes please! The good thing about the short protocol is it all happens so quickly - I only started my period 11 days ago and we are nearly at egg collection.

Gleegeekgleek I watched Glee the other day for the first time. I may have to tune in to it regularly. How's things with you?

Hello to Rosie, Kiwi, Penguin, babybarrister, Mercenarymom, Mojangles, Sgibbo, Amberc, Cerubina, Mrsnorthman, perfectdromedary, fairygodmother, Islegrin and Londonlottie and anyone else who is about.

I have been for my final scan. Three great follicles. All about 22mm and ready for collection on Wednesday morning. The nurse today was lovely and really positive. So last injections this evening and then day off tomorrow (although I am working so not quite a day off!). The DS's are staying at my parents for a couple of days so that is sorted.

Have a good day everyone

gleegeekgleek · 05/04/2010 16:50

Just a quick one - Ginger - I too might well have EC on Wednesday morning.
I'm waiting for the clinic to call and confirm either way. It's worse than waiting by the phone for a boyfriend to call as a teenager.
If they don't call soon I think I'll have to phone the on-call number as what if they've forgotten and then I don't take my trigger injection etc. [nervous panic emoticon]

Duelling - don't give up hope. There are so many stories of people with no symptoms getting a positive result. It's too early for symptoms really anyway.

Idream - that does sound deeply annoying about the nurses not remembering about the flare protocol.

Hi to everyone else - Italian, Mo, Sgibbo.

MercenaryMom · 05/04/2010 19:46

Big hug to Dueling! Sorry you're feeling down but don't lose hope yet. I know from experience that nothing anyone says can really help with the doubts and the worry, so sending you lots of hugs and sticky vibes (or sticky chocolate boobs, if you prefer - although that sounds more like Dave the Lorry Driver from Slough's territory...)

Great news for Gingerwine, 3G and Idreamofchocbunnies. Sounds like its all kicking off for you.

Feeling increasingly frustrated. Just sitting here waiting for AF to begin so I can start with the tests (not even the next cycle, but the tests before the next cycle!) - and nothing is happening. Urgh.

Big waves to all and hope you enjoyed your Easter break. Hands up those who are looking forward to going back to work!

gingerwine · 05/04/2010 21:31

Any news Gleegeekgleek? Hope you have had your phone call and all is well. I think I will have to shorten your name to 3G too!

I have done my last injections which is a big relief and we are all set to go.

It will be strange going to work tomorrow as if all is normal. I have been focussing on follicles so much over the Easter weekend I have almost forgotten about work. Last day for two and a half weeks though as I have managed to take some annual leave before I go away on a training course for a week. Hooray!

KiwiKat · 05/04/2010 21:56

Gingerwine, great news re the big fat follies! Glad they came to the party.

Dueling, it ain't over 'til it's over, so hang in there until Saturday. We're all keeping our fingers crossed for you.

GGG, we'll be waiting to hear how it all went on Wednesday.

MM, wash your mouth out - 'work', blaaaaaaah!

Italian, will have to do a bit more research on the sweet potato thing. My husband makes the most spectacular sweet potato and red lentil soup, which we had tonight, as it happens, so I'd be reluctant to give that up.

Love to everyone.

Italiangreyhound · 05/04/2010 23:20

Dueling Chin up, please stay positive, ask Kiwi about those affirmations. The link is here

I think.

I am not sure how much I think we can change things but I guess being positive doesn?t hurt. Not long to go until you test, try and look on the bright side, it may all work out. Come on cycle buddy, we can do it!

gingerwine all the best to you. Yes, chocolate city at my place at the moment, DD had four big eggs and several little mini eggs! Quick arrow prayer for Wednesday for you and for gleegeekgleek - yes, call the clinic (I think) better to know, that?s one thing different from being a teenager waiting for a boyfriend, if you call the nurses they won?t start blanking you! Yes, to both of you echoing MM?s sticky vibes.

MM I am not back to work for 2 weeks, off to Spring Harvest (big Easter Christian holiday at Butlins ? yes, I know it sounds funny but it is great). Really hoping that your af will appear.

Please KiwiKat I had sweet potato tonight, I had it boiled then roasted with turnip and also red pepper, courgette, aubergine and olive oil (to accompany salmon, mashed potatoes, green beans and those weird sweet corn things my daughter calls ?rockets?. This is my healthiest meal! Please continue to hang around here. We love ya.

Actually forgot for 10 minutes I'd had treatment! Weird, just sort of forgot it, after all the drugs, pesseries, being careful lifting etc I thought I would never forget!

STICKY Chocolate to all from Slough (and elsewhere).

moomaker · 05/04/2010 23:22

Hiya all, newbie requesting permission to join.

I have been TTC for 6 months but have a allergy to sperm, so have fertility clinic referal for next week.

Had been "self-medicating" with OTC antihystamines and painkillers, but now know those are not good for TTC.

Have done ovulation tests which were positive, and also tried temperature tracking- which was all over the place!

ATM trying to keep the whole SWI business light hearted as I need to tell him in a "non-killing-the-mood" way that it is time to conceive, as I don't want to have too many bad reactions as it really puts me of s3x.

Just wondering what to expect, what i should ask about at the clinic, etc.

It is also difficult to "chat" about such things in normal social circles, so if you would let me join I would be V grateful.

Hi!

just a quickie, i haven't read back yet as I'm at work.

Just to let you know that my appointment went well yesterday - i had a scan and my 1st injection! No side effects yet, although i did feel a bit bloated last night, but i'm putting that down to eating far too much of my mum's roast dinner and rice pudding!!

Have a good day xxx

Cerubina · 06/04/2010 09:09

Hi all

Italian that's fantastic news, you managed to fool us all that it was coming up so soon! It was really interesting to read about your experience of ET and let's now hope they are settling in and not going anywhere. Hope your DD has remembered to be gentle with you - presumably she doesn't know that you might have a baby on board but just thinks it was a general tummy op?

Hang in there Dueling, nothing is certain until you test. No symptoms need not mean no hope. It must be so difficult not to be second guessing, but try to keep positive for now and distract yourself with some chocolate if there's any still knocking around the house! Thinking of you.

Idream was that a seasonal name change or will you be dreaming of Lindt bunnies permanently? How was the day 2 scan? All set to make a start now? Very exciting news to be underway at last.

Gingerwine those follies sound like a perfect size and you sound much more positive about them. Fingers crossed for three super-eggs in there. Good luck for Weds.

Good luck to GGG for Weds too, if that's when it ends up being. Definitely think it's a good idea to ring the clinic if you are wondering on the timing and I'm sure you are not being a pest if you check that sort of thing. It's natural to be unsure of all this, they do it all the time and probably forget that it's not second nature to the women who go through it.

MM remind me what tests you are due to have? Are they ones to determine whether anything could have been improved about your last cycle? Hope your period makes an appearance soon (seems odd to be wishing it on when normally we are doing anything but, but I know what you mean).

Welcome to moomaker. An allergy to sperm sounds like a right pain in the neck when you want a baby. Did you know you had that before you began TTC? Thank goodness you have not been suffering "too long" before getting started with treatment anyway, I know 6 months feels like an age but it is fairly quick to be getting a referral. In terms of what to ask, I guess the big question is what tests do they think you need, and what treatment do they think you should have - IUI, IVF etc. Will you get funding, what's the waiting list, how many attempts will you get, and so on. Make a list to take with you in case your mind goes blank when you get there. Is your OH going too? Definitely worth getting his boys tested too if they haven't been - just in case there is an issue there that needs to be worked around. Good luck!

Not much new from me. Day 3 of a new cycle so have got the first post-m/c cycle out of the way, it was more or less normal length-wise but had lots of intermittent bleeding that was annoying and difficult to interpret, so hoping that this cycle is more settled. Not feeling too upset about not being pg as it was a very remote prospect anyway, but obviously it would have been brilliant to be one of those lucky bitches who conceives immediately again. Still ages away from getting going with an assisted cycle, sometimes I feel as though I'm an interloper in this thread since I haven't actually had a sniff of treatment in the months I've been on here. Hope you don't mind me being here as I'm otherwise homeless!

sgibbo · 06/04/2010 11:54

Hi everyone, first week over with and just about to start the count down for the 2nd week of my 2WW.

Dueling i'm a few days behind you and can't wait to find out. But like you I don't really have any symptoms either, although not sure if there are really going to be any at this stage?

Italian the name is my first initial and part of my maiden name - unfortunately nothing exciting, it is also a login for work - thought it best to have something I would remember.
I test on the 14th April which feels like ages away. It's amazing that when you wait for AF to arrive a week flies by but the 2WW seems to take the longest time.
I went to Spring Harvest a very long time ago had lots of fun and really enjoyed it - which Butlins are you going to? we went to Skegness but it would have been at least 12 years ago

Still have a severe bad back and haven't really been able to do much over the weekend which is making the whole 2WW feel like an eternity because I can't really do anything to occupy my time. DH started to decorate and I couldn't help, all I could do was sit and watch! (although it's a good excuse not to have to do the house work!!!!)

gleegeekgleek · 06/04/2010 15:13

Ginger - just a quick one to say good luck for tomorrow!

I am in tomorrow too for EC. Am now on OHSS watch and have to start some medicine to help prevent it.
Let's hope it works as it sounds nasty.

Hi to everyone else.

Hi Lovely Ladies! Happy Belated Easter.

Thank you for your kind words of encouragement and support. No real progress yet - just much reading of internet sites & trying to work out in my head what to do next.

I totally appreciate the support and send it back to all of you many times over who are going through both natural conception and IVF. Either is a huge emotional journey and it's good to find a sort of home to share whatever is happening.

Fiona
