Just been told IVF is the way forward

Feeling a bit shocked... Srarted trying in July 2008 for first baby, fell pregant in October (didn't try in August) by using Persona to pinpoint correct days..

This ended in December 2008 with a miscarriage at 12 weeks but my baby had stopped growing at 10 weeks..

I never really got over it but DH and I decided to try again straight away.. 12 months later, we haven't even had a faint positive HPT..

I was getting odd, very painful pain at ovulation time and was referred for a laparoscopy, which found small fibroids but they are not in the 'wrong' place and my tubes are clear..

DH has had two sperm tests and both were poor.. He has good volume of seman, but the sperm have poor motility.

I have had every blood test and scan under the sun and all my hormone levels etc are normal and I am ovulating fine. Also had a PCT test but that was negative.

Our Consultant has now said IVF is the next step and I am shocked and don't know what to think or expect..

DH is mortified too which doesn't help. Neither of us can forget the fact that we got pregnant so easily the first time.

Any experiences out there that are similar? What can I now expect?

Think very carefully before going down the IVF road. I know some one who has just gone through a very acrimonious divorce following years of failed ivf.

On the other hand my 8 year old DS from my first attempt at ivf is currently playing on the PLaystation behind me!

Our was similar reasons to yours with added complication of impotence thrown in for good measure.

If tests are showing that you don't have any major fertility issues then I would say that your chances were quite good. At least that was what I was told.

Your DH should try not to feel too bad. It is just one of those things. It could have just as easily been you with the issues.
