Mumps

Does anyone know anything about men having mumps in childhood? I know it can affect sperm count, but does it always? I've no reason at all yet to think that my DH has a low sperm count as we've only been TTC a couple of months, but it just occurred to me and now I'm wondering. I think he did have mumps and am thinking about asking his mum for sure, but I know she'd put two and two together and make five and I also know he's be completely humiliated if I did ask her! So does anyone know? Attila, you're usually full of info - any thoughts? We were of the generation (mid 70s) who didn't get vaccinated for anything and had the lot - measles, rubella, chicken pox, mumps and whoooping cough. Eh, those were the days... though I think my parents drew the line at polio and diphtheria!

No medical expert, but I always thought that it was only a problem if you got mumps as an adult (or at least after puberty). I think it is only a potential problem then if you actually get the swelling in the glands "down there" as well.

My OH apparently had it when he was a ki (or so the MIL says) and he's fathered three boys easily! I wouldn't worry about it too much! Good luck TTC!
