Period after Miscarriage

I was wondering if any mners could give me some advice regarding their first period after a mc. I miscarried 10 days ago at 12 weeks; emotionally I feel generally fine now - a bit vulnerable at times but quite positive in the knowledge that I miscarried for a "good" reason, ie. the embryo just wasn't viable.

I ended up in hospital with excessive blood loss, had a scan once the bleeding subsided and it was confirmed that I didn't need an ERPC as everything had passed through successfully. I had a small amount of brown discharge (tmi alert!) for a few days which lessened every day.

I've been feeling a bit premenstrual for a couple of days (mild headache, mild period cramps) and seem to have now started a period - very light, brown rather than red. I'm wondering if this is possible as everywhere I've read that it normally takes 4 to 7 weeks for the cycle to kick back in again.

Could any mners let me know if they've had a similar experience? Many thanks!

Sorry to hear about your miscarriage. A miscarriage can be very stop-start in nature. So it is most likely that it is still part of the m/c since it is only 10 days ago. Have you done a pregnancy test since the miscarriage? It could be that your levels have only just reached zero, and your body doing a final re-adjustment. I hope this helps.

Sorry to hear about your loss especially at 12 weeks.

I had a mc in December (at 9 weeks) and I kept thinking I was having my period as I bleed 5 weeks after and then 2 weeks after that but both times very light. 11 weeks after I mc'd I had a heavy bleed which I am guessing was my first AF.

Hopefully you won't have to wait as long as me, and again I am really sorry to hear about your loss.

So sorry to hear about your miscarriage. I had one a couple of years ago. Like you, I was admitted to hospital, had a scan and they confirmed that the "products of conception" had all been cleared out and I didn't need an ERPC. and it took about 5 weeks after the actual miscarriage for my period to comeI would imagine that it would take longer than 10 days for your period to come and it could be your hormones getting back to normal. I definitely found that I had more PMT symptoms than usual, and for much longer, in the lead up to that period and it seemed to take ages to actually start.

The good news is that I got pregnant on the following cycle and now have a son. I hope it also happens for you when you feel ready.

Many thanks ladies for your help, ladies. AF seems to have stopped today so I think it probably just my hormones getting back together again.

Hi everyone,
Was hoping you could help. I went into labour at 21 weeks on 1st March and of course my baby boy didn't make it. I stopped bleeding on the 20th March and then had a fresh bleed on 21st March which only lasted a few hours. My GP said that could have been my period as the first one can be very strange. I am usually VERY heavy with extremely strong cramps. My husband and I have been trying since the bleed stopped and after two days of feeling sick, tired and with tender breasts I thought 'yay' but this morning I had a watery blood loss which is still going on. I feel sore and have a kind of stinging sensation deep inside every few hours.
I was wondering if there was any chance I could be pregnant or if this is another 'strange' period whilst my body gets over what happened?

Sayitwithsam - I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I could not let your post go unanswered however I am unable to give you any advice, I hope someone with more knowledge comes along soon.
