Is it possible to have LH surge AFTER ovulation has taken place?

Have been using ovulation kits - albeit not from CD10 or anything like that as I'm just using them to confirm what I think about my cycle iyswim

However, it was CD14 on Saturday...had ov pains on lower left side on Friday and EWCM the weekend and Monday am. Tested with dip test yesterday and had a medium strength line but it was lighter than the test line. Tested again today and line was even darker - more or less equal to the test line - but EWCM has lessened.

I'm puzzled as I would have thought I would have been having EWCM today if I was having my surge, hence wondering if it was possible
to have a surge AFTER rather than before ovulation....but from my reading, LH release is prior to ovulation not after

Am confused.com!

Hmmm, well I'm not an expert, but my understanding is that it's the LH surge that causes the egg to burst out of the follicle - it's not just that the LH surge and ovulation just coincidentally happen at the same time.

I've never used OPKs so probably not the best person to comment though.

Sorry, biologically not possible - the LH surge triggers ovulation. I'm not a big fan of these OPKs myself - some of them pick up high baseline FSH levels (which is the hormone that kicks the growth of the follicle off), and can give misleading results.

i have come to the conclusion that ov sticks, ewcm and saliva ov tests are all misleadig and so think the only way forward is bd/swi all month to be on the safe side!

That's what I was thinking...I was just confused as I'm getting the EWCM before the surge so its rather confusing...

From what I have read on here, that sounds about right - EWCM seems to mean that ovulation is imminent, and dries up immediately after ovulation.

Really...so EWCM Monday am and then positive opk result today sounds about right?

Its all very unromantic but with a part time job and a v demanding toddler that still wakes in the night, who has the energy to b'd every other day from CD 10 onwards?!!!

Mind you, could cut down on mnet I s'pose
