LH, FSH, oestradiol test

Hi

Just wanted to check something with you ladies, I went to the GP today to discuss how long it is taking us to conceive and he prescribed the LH, FSH and oestradiol test for me. However, he said that I could come in any day to do the test - I thought this was the Day 3 test? I did try to clarify with him that I thought this was done on Day 3 but he said it could be done at any time in the cycle. Is that right or should I wait until Day 3? I am currently on 10 dpo on this cycle.

If it's LH, FSH & oestradiol, it definitely needs to be done on CD2/3, afaik. But am not a dr...

LH and FSH are two very important hormones as they kickstart the ovulation process. Thus these should be measured and compared againsteach other early in the cycle.

Should ideally be day 3.

BTW if your menstrual cycle is irregular the test can be done according to calendar days.
Also do not assume you are 10 day post ovulation; ovulation is not an exact science and you may not have ovulated this cycle.

thanks Attila - can you tell me what you mean by calendar days? Do you mean like on the 3rd of the month?

I got my period today - don't know what is going on with my cycles. My luteal phase has normally been 14 days but last month it was 12 days and now this month 10 days. In the last 6 months my cycles have now ranged from 28 - 41 days.

Yes, that's what I meant by calendar days.

If your cycles have increasingly become more irregular it may be that you are not ovulating regularly if at all. This is often caused by hormonal imbalances (a condition called polycystic ovaries is a common culprit); blood tests can be done to see what your hormone levels are like. A 28-41 day cycle would certainly be seen as irregular.

See if you can get a day 3 test done; that will tell you what your LH and FSH levels are like. I would put money on it that these two levels are awry.
