2 weeks late but NOT pregnant?

Hi, I am new to the whole TTC thing - and could use some insight. This is a great website for newbies.

After going off the pill in Nov 09 (after 10 years of continuous use) my hubby and I have been trying to conceive. No luck so far.

I am normally a 28 day cycle, and this month i was exactly 2 weeks late! I totally got my hopes up and took not 1 but several pregnancy tests. All negative. When my period finally did arrive, it was weirder than usual. It was heavier and went all through the night (not normal), but it still only lasted 3 days (normal for me).

This iss what I am thinking: could it be that the birth control hormones have taken this long to work their way through my system?? Is this my body 'rebooting' itself?

Or, could the negative tests be wrong?

Any help would be sooooo appreciated. Thanks!!

Hey, just saw yr post, and didn't want it to go unanswered...

This has happened to me a good few times actually, in my opinion I think it's your body trying to get back to normal, I used to be regular, 28 days, could time it to the hour, but now they can be 2 weeks late, 10 days late, 4 days late etc etc, hang in there, yr body should get back to normal soon, and good luck and babydust to you and yr hubby, I am trying for #3 now xxxx

Hi, thanks.

I was worried bc I read that it could be a sign of not ovulating, which really worries me. I think I am going to ask my GP for a blood pregnancy test just to be sure.

I hope that I get back to normal quickly. This is my first ever pregnancy and each month I get carried away thinking things like 'if I get pregnant now, that would be a great month for a due date, and it would be an a great time to go on maternity leave'.

I realize those thoughts are not helpful and each month I can't help but get my hopes up. It really scares me to think that I may not have been ovulating this whole time.

I hope it is just as you say, a quirk in my body clock. Thanks for the advice.

Hi'a
This is exactly what my body seems to be doing too. I already have one DS, 2.5 years old and as I got pregnant with him straight away I never had a period without being on the pill. I came off the pill last summer 2009 and was three weeks late and thought I was pregnant despite several negative tests. I went back on the pill after this as I found it all quite distressing. I have come off the pill again on February and am now two weeks late and have just had a negative pregnancy test.
I believe my body could be trying top sort itself out after years of being on the pill, apart from when I had my DS, so I guess we just have to keep our fingers crossed that it will eventually sort itself out.
I like you, spent ages this time thinking how great a November baby would be, and am now gutted to think it may not be until 2011 that I have another baby

Hi - I don't know whether this will be helpful, but exactly the same thing happened to me....I came off the pill in October, and had two "normal cycles" and then a 60 day gap between cycles and a series of negative tests!! I went to the doctor, and they said not to worry for 3 or 4 months, but of course I was terrified, convincedI wasn't ovulating at all etc etc. Anyway, after 60 days my period came back, and low and behold I got pregnant that very cycle (now 6 weeks gone). So I know it's easy to say, but try not to get too worried - apparently it's very common. Good luck.
