I am trying to work out when i ovulate but dont know how to work out first day of period.Thing is every 28days i start off with spotting, its bright red but very light(heavier when going to the loo) this lasts for 3days goes brown and stops.I only wear a pant liner on these 3days.
However after 2 days of no bleed at all i get 2-3 days of very heavy bleed.
When do i count from? Gynea was no help he just kept saying"from when you start bleeding"
My periods have been like this since dd3 was born 3yrs ago.
I have endomitriosis and cervical erosion but have had checks and all ok at the mo.
Im TTC number 4 and if i count from wrong day i could miss the whole fertile period,im so confused.

Hi Totallyfloaty35,

From the sounds of your cycle it's very similar to mine. I always get a 'day off' in the middle of my period and have done for a long time.

The first day of the first bleed is the beginning of your period, therefore cycle day 1 (CD1). Chart your cycle from then and between CD10-CD20 look out for egg-white cervical mucous (EWCM). This change in consistency indicates ovulation within 24 hours. SWI every other day from CD8 until the day after EWCM finishes.

Good luck with TTC#4

Do you think i should count from the first day of spotting then Mummy369?
No one else seems to have a break in the middle of their period ,so im glad im not alone

Any spotting between periods should be checked out now medically to ascertain the cause (it is often not serious but it may be cervical erosion again in your case).

First day of period is proper red blood flow.

I would suggest from the first day of spotting as this is the beginning of the womb shedding its lining.

As you have seen your Gynaecologist and already ruled out problems with endometriosis and cervical erosion, I would go with my original post and count CD1 as fist day of first bleed/spotting, but do look out for the cervical mucous as this will be your indicator that you are ovulating.

You are not alone with the break in your period - I do as well, always have done. I have about 2 days heavy bleed, one complete dry day, then it starts again heavy for 1-2 days and tails off after that. I have always wondered why but never been concerned.

totally You could try what dh and I are trying. Sex every other day whatever the time of your cycle. Whenever you are not bleeding is fair game until next bleed.

It's how we got preg at xmas, (mmc) and how we are trying now even though i haven't had a period since erpc on 27th Jan. Will keep at it until 2 bloody lines or period arrives.

Good luck

Liahgen66 how on earth you get your DH to do it every other day I can't even imagine!

liahgen66 · 05/03/2010 21:19

amanda he is very good, we had a barren 4 days last week when i ended up being out all night, 2 out of the 4 ( I am a doula and was at births) and completely knackered the other 2 but soon caught up.

And of course the morning glory comes in handy for a quickie befoe he goes to work, (me not always thrilled with this option as he gets up at 5.30am!!)

Bless him, he does sometimes make comments about me only wanting him forhis sperm, and being a machine but he's as comitted as I am and we are a bit old to be hanging about, ( I am 43).

He takes his vits that i dole out to him daily too.

Thanks,i think i will count from first spotting and that way i wont miss my fertile bit i hope.DH is away a lot though as he works abroad so pretty difficult to time things with TTC.
