TTC for 6 years, could I be pregnant?

DP and I have been TTC for the last 6 years, to no avail. i already have 1DC to a previous partner and all tests have come up ok.
I have been having cramps and VERY sore boobs for well over a week now, and was expecting AF 23 Feb as my previous cycle was also 28 days. I have been known to go to 35 days but I am now on CD37!!?!?!
Got a BFN on Saturday, and am scared to test again in case its negative and I have got my hopes up...Could it be early menopause? hope not

I would not retest in your circs as seeing a possible repeated negative can be very disheartening (you have already seen one recent negative result).

Would ask what tests both you and your man have had done to date and when. I ask this as some tests do get missed out.

Are you currently under the care of a gynae at a subfertility unit?. If not you should be.

no i'm not, `we were referred to the infertility clinic some time ago where they only tested my DPs sperm and my hormone levels. was prescribed clomid for 6 months, unsuccessfully and they said that's all they can do and diagnosed unexplained infertility.
I had an ectopic pregnancy some 5 years ago, but nothing since then. had a lap & dye which came back normal.

The previous place you visited was frankly useless. BTW was that a private clinic?.

Did they not comment on your hormone levels; why did they give you clomid for six months?. They must have been awry for you to receive this drug treatment, it is usually given where there are ovulatory problems. Presumably this bunch did the lap as well but for what reason?.

Is there any way the GP can re-refer you back to another unit (certainly not the one you originally attended). As you no doubt realise "unexplained infertility" is infact no diagnosis at all; all it means is they failed to find out what is wrong. It is sometimes given to patients when not enough investigative tests have been done on either patient.

Any test result over six months should be discounted; you both need up to date test results and soon. You need a diagnosis first and foremost.

I think you were fobbed off previously and badly so.

You will need to be persistant in order to get answers. It is all too easy to be fobbed off.

they just said that i was ovulating, but they gave me the clomid to give me a "double" shot i suppose...
yes they did the lap but that was 5 years ago after the ectopic. the clomid etc was around 2 years ago.
i'm not aware of any other units in the area, the unit we saw said that on the NHS these are the only tests available, and that we should consider IVF, which we have to pay for due to DC1.

You'd be better off being referred to a major NHS centre in your nearest city.

Initially at least you are safer going under the NHS.

Clomid should not really be used unless there is definitive proof that ovulation is not happening regularly.

You need up to date test results, it may be that you won't need IVF at all.
