not started one of these threads for a while but have moved on from my enforced ttc break and we shall give it another go. however, I have one rule.

NO TESTING BEFORE 14DPO, its for your own good!

please don't bite my head off but what the heck does POAS mean?? i usually guess most of them but this one has lost me, it's not in the MN acronyms page either...

TIA

LaRagazzaInglese · 20/03/2010 23:50

While I'm here, I've read that the first pee when you wake up in the morning is not ideal for pregnancy testing, then also, I've read somewhere else it's the hormone rich ideal pee for best results. What do you lot think MNers?

queenoftheslatterns · 21/03/2010 00:06

hi larag, welcome to nontesters. POAS means pee-on-a-stick, and tbh it depends. FMU (first wee of the day) is the recommended one because its undiluted and has a high concentration of hormone, however, if you dont drink too much during the day it doesnt really matter. and after period due day the hormone levels should be high enough to be detected at any time of the day. this is one reason its recommended that you wait to test.

Hi non-testing MN's,
I also appreciated the clarification on POAS. On first month of TTC here and having come off the pill I really don't know when AF is due... so my question is.. why is it so important to wait until after AF is due before testing? Sorry if this is going back over some real basics.
P.S. Loving the encouragement not to test... I have renewed determination and one very pointless test on Saturday!

HongKongBaby · 21/03/2010 06:12

Love this thread. I am a terrible early tester. Ridiculously and pointlessly early! I just feel so annoyed with myself when all commonsense is telling me to save your money but I just can't help yourself... Well this cycle the chances of being pregnant are virtually nil due to DH's work schedule meaning not much BD happened, practically none in fact. So the temptation is not as strong this time, but it still pops up from time to time because.... you just never know right, there is always a chance.... ha ha. CD37 for me, UCL about 38/39 though only 3rd cycle since AF returned after stopped breastfeeding so not 100% sure about that. Good luck on holding off the testing ladies, think of all the ££££ saved.

HevaU · 21/03/2010 07:51

Hi All

Please can i join, been TTC for 1 month now, on day 22 of a 28 day cycle getting so temping to test, been symptom spotting the whole month just after i ovulated i had cramps and little bleed it was more brown than anything (convinced myself it?s implantation) but now i have AF symptoms started yesterday and feeling worse this morning. Have cramping, backache, sore boobies and a little bit windy Oh well if it?s not meant to be this month then more trying for us (do you think the double bluffing will work)

Nearly tested with FR this morning, but a pee so much in the nite that i never know when my first we should be (sorry if TMI) went 4 times in the nite.

queenoftheslatterns · 21/03/2010 08:08

hi, welcome to all newcomers! testing before your period is due is pretty pointless, for every woman who gets an early bfp there will be millions who dont, the accuracy of tests is shockingly low before 14dpo, the stats on women who get an accurate result are:

10dpo=35%

11dpo=51%

12dpo=62%

13dpo=68%

14dpo=74%

15dpo=80%

16dpo=88%

1 7dpo=92%

even the most sensitive of tests only work some of the time. not to mention that every pg is different and hormone levels vary a lot from pg to pg, let alone woman to woman, add to that the amount of women who have a cp, isn't it better to not know? and the amount of money saved. finding out early also makes for a very long pg. testing early doesnt make you any more pg, waiting wont make you any less pg, it just costs a fortune!

Hi Ladies, (big waves)

Going to pop myself in here now.. on CD 12, I know what's coming and I'm going to try my hardest to resist testing before CD 28

Not been one for testing in the past and have bought no bogof's even though I know they have been on offer recently. Lets see how long I can last

JulesAbs · 21/03/2010 16:01

queenoftheslatterns

I didn't know that thanks for the info. I bought a pack of tests yesterday and was considering tomorrow morning but think i will be good and wait another week. So hard to wait thou when it is something i find myself constantly thinking of.

Hello

Jules

Wholelottalove · 21/03/2010 18:33

Hi Ladies

Sorry not been about this week - tired, loads on at work etc etc..

Welcome to newcomers :-)

TTC - realy sorry to hear your news, hope you're ok.

Lia - well, DH and I are sort of aiming for minimum of every other day to SWI, although not quite managed it this week. Think I may be coming up to OV time, not really sure. Trying to listen to my body as I know I feel more like having sex when I am most fertile (as you'd imagine!) and in fact this was how we conceived DD.

Lucy - glad the vacc went ok. Last time we took DD in was for MMR and it was horrible, she was hysterical and had quite a nasty reaction afterwards

HevaU · 21/03/2010 18:47

Okay so i cracked tested this morning well mid morning and BNF which i knew it would be why do we do it.

Now going to control myself and wait until my AF should arrive on Saturday then test!!!!

Good luck all for this week x

Unbuffy · 21/03/2010 19:10

Hi guys, haven't been around for a bit as being saintly and unworried about testing no really...

I have been very very good, no testing yet. Some advice required please. Since my halo is shiny shiny bright and I have not poas early. Day 28 tomorrow. Last month was 28 days dead on. Before that m/c, and before THAT a big mess of funny-length cycles. SO.... WHEN should I test? Tomorrow morning? Wait to see what happens tomorrow and try on Tuesday? Just wait and see for a while? Starting to get nervous and excited all at once now - very foolish I know, seting myself up for a fall... Queen, you're the expert, help! Have no idea when I ov'd btw.

queenoftheslatterns · 22/03/2010 07:22

morning ladies, welcome to all newcomers!

unbuffy, I would wait til tuesday, after a mc your body gets up to all sorts of tricks and needs time to settle down

hevu, it really is far too early to get a bfp wait til saturday morning!

, hope you are all ok

periiod hads finally stopped but ribs are pretty bad at the mo so no shagging for us for a while hope you all hgad a good weekend, i took ds to the cinema kids club yesterday with SIL and nephew, it was lovely!

Bicnod · 22/03/2010 19:08

Right. I'm back from holiday and had lots of fun SWI-ing

Now on my 2ww - must not test before Friday 2 April. Don't let me. I drove myself nuts last month and refuse to be such a loon again.

HevaU · 22/03/2010 19:27

I know Queen i'm so impatient. Only have 1 FR left so Saturday morning it is unless AF comes before.

meatntattypie · 22/03/2010 19:31

Just to clarify, when a hpt says that you can test from the day your period is due...it wont then work if you test say 8 days before your period is due???

(serious question btw)

meatntattypie · 22/03/2010 19:33

sorry girls, just read back and you all make it very clear why these tests dont work.
Thanks,

Am desperate to test though...desperate.

Unbuffy · 22/03/2010 19:58

Was fine during the 2ww. No problems. Honest, didn't bother me. Much.

Now I'm terrified. To be + OR to be -. If the first, what if it all goes wrong again (14 weeks last time) If the second, then back to ttc hell.

Can't tell whether to test or not, now. Or just wait it out.

Sorry ladies, I know most of you are here for the opposite reason to me - I'm just so scared, had to rant!

liahgen66 · 22/03/2010 20:22

Hi everyone,

buffy hold out for tomorrow. I have everything crossed for you.

HongKongBaby · 23/03/2010 04:11

Unbuffy · 23/03/2010 12:04

(battered and served with chips, peas and a large bottle of wine)

Better luck next time - give it a few days!

nunnie · 23/03/2010 13:18

I used to come on here alot last year, not sure if anyone will remember me, or if even any of the others are still here or have moved onto another forum by now (hopefully)

Just wanted to say early testing is a nightmare to stop, but once you do you will feel so much better I promise, much less stressful, upsetting and much, much cheaper x

Bicnod · 23/03/2010 13:33

Oh meatntatty - fingers crossed for a BFP in a few days time.

Unbuffy - I want chips now
