Stupid BFP question

I have literally just got a BFP after months of TTC after a miscarriage a year ago. Which is nice!

But here is the paranoia part. Also the TMI part. I started to wee and was finding it too hard to aim the stream at the stick, IYSWIM, so reached over and grabbed a jam jar that I had used to do a test last week (BFN then obviously). Thing is, when I used it the first time I washed it with boiling water, cooled it and dried it before doing the test.

After the BFN though I just rinsed it under the tap and sat it next to the bath [skank emoticon]. So when I grabbed the jar just now it wasn't exactly laboratory clean. Could this give me a false BFP do you think?

I just did two tests at once, an Ebay cheapie (faint line) and a CBD which said pregnant 1-2 weeks. I'm probably 16DPO but have weird varying long cycles, am on CD40.

Had started thinking I was never going to get pg so can't quite believe it could be true.

No, I think it is a genuine BFP!

Get another test if you're still unsure....

.... but I think - congrats

ShowOfHands · 27/02/2010 16:26

The positive line comes from the test picking up hcg which is only produced when you are pg. There are rare circumstances where you can get a false positive but these will be detailed on the test instructions (things like certain chemotherapies causing bfps).

You are pg. Congratulations.

Thank you! Am going a bit mental. I was thinking, hormones from contraceptive pills in tap water could have dried on to the jar...

Will test again. DH will be sent to the shops post haste.

Why are you testing again woman? Save your money. You're pg.

Does a jig then remembers plan to lie flat for next 9 months to avoid dislodging it again

Thanks SOH too!

Jig away. I had a miscarriage and it took 14 months to conceive dd so I know how worrying it is when you finally get the next bfp. But nothing you did caused the mc and nothing you do now will affect the viability of this pregnancy (all class a drugs use or similar excepted of course).

Here's to a happy, healthy 9 months, well 8 really. Maybe not even that. Aww, how exciting. You're growing a brand new little life.

GeekIsGood · 27/02/2010 16:42

ShowOfHands you made me cry! In a good way. I'm glad it worked out for you.

Oh gods I hope this one stays put. Have worked out due date and everything.

Thank you! Feel like a fraud as have no symptoms at all. I didn't last time either. May the crazed knicker checking begin.

Lucy I have no idea about cm - I've never noticed any changes to mine so I wouldn't worry about it tbh. You could drive yourself mad looking for all those little signs.

8DPO probably a bit on the early side to test, best wait a few days. Depends how patient you are! A BFN at this point could be false.

Good luck!
