Can someone explain how fertile and ovulation dates work?

Please can someone explain how the ovulation and fertile dates. According to calculators on various websites I was supposed to be fertile from the 19th - 24th Feb. Yesterday the ovulation pains were unbearable. We only managed to do the deed on the 22nd. Did an ovulation test today and it is negative......so do we have an early night tonight or not ;-)

Don't know how helpful you will find this but IME tracking 'fertile times' is a mugs game! Just have sex 2-3 times a week, when you feel like it, and try to keep things fun. Good luck

I'd say yes but the more the better when ttc. FYI I never managed to get any results from ovulation tests so I've always just gone with what my body feels like.
