would an evap line show straight away on a hpt? Help!

Ok, im on day25 of a 28 day cycle. I didnt think i could be pg this month as i was using opk's and couldnt see a surge when i tested.

However, just randomly i thought i would use one of my batch of pg tests bought from ebay last month, they claim to be 10miu and so are the most sensitive and early in detecting pg (apparently). Anyway i did a sample in a cup - sorry tmi alert ... it was really dark and concentrated as i dont think i had been to the loo for about six hours plus had not had much to drink today, anyway as the colour ran across the test you could see the second line straight away, i took it downstairs to show DH and he could see it too.

The test is still showing the second line BUT i took another one (about an hour after the first) with a different not-held-very-long sample and it came up negative

The test with the postive line also did not go completely white like the negative test did the background of it is all streaky and pink still although both lines are still visible, i wonder if this initial line i saw is on a faulty test (they are only ebay cheapys) and thats why the backgroung of the test is still quite pinky and streaky?

I consulted poas.com and apparently evap lines dont appear straight away just after the 10 mins?

This is our 1st month really trying and it would be amazing if it had worked especially as the opk didnt show bugger all but the subsequent negative has made me a bit i thought a line was a line and it did look like a stronger sample but looking at the test with both lines it has not gone clear white in the background so maybe its faulty ... ahhh sorry for the waffling - what do the wise and knowing mumsnetters think?

do 1 again tomorrow morning, its before your period due so the second one might not have bee strong enough

Plum you think? I have just added a photo of the neg and positive to my profile - have a look and see what you think, as i said the only thing which is making me wonder if its faulty is the fact that the background of it is still pinkish and the neg is white, however i am holding on to the fact that it appeared virtually straight away.

The first one is positive. I've had an ebay cheapy (they're utterly reliable if used properly) stay pink in the background and I was def. pg.

I think your urine wasn't concentrated enough the 2nd time round.

It is worth mentioning too that many people conceive and then the pg doesn't embed/progress and you bleed at the normal time and you wouldn't know the egg had fertilised initially unless you did an early test. This is a chemical pregnancy and is common and known about more since we can pick up such small amounts of hcg. Once upon a time, you would never have tested positive and never would have known. I'm just mentioning it to you as a possibility, hope that's okay.

opks are not reliable in isolation either btw so it's entirely possible that you ovulated without the opk telling you so.

That's definetly a 2nd pink line on the one on the right. It could be that the neg test is a dud test.

Go and get yourself a clearblue digi. They told me four days before I was due my period.

I did a cheap one with dc3 and thats exactly how it looked and I remember looking at it later (why do we not throw in bin right away???) and thinking oh F**K I don't think that is a line how stupid am I, dh sat there saying there is a line and well shes 3 now

do one tomorrow but I think you are, hope so, I think the second one was as I said because its before your period a weaker sample

fingers crossed I will check on you tomorrow

btw the last time I told a mumsnetter I thought she was pg was princessmel who went on to have a live birth thread

Meg i used a clearblue digi with the same sample that i got the neg from too and it said not pregnant so i actually got two negs but i figured that as my period isnt due for another 3 days and the other tests are 10miu of hcg to get a postive and i think clearblue is 25-50mui to get a positive that the clearblue was less likely to pick it up anyway for a day or so. Anyway i am thinking now maybe just maybe ... (fingers crossed emotcion) Just have to see if i can get another positive late tonight (if i hold all eve) or first thing tomorrow.

showofhands am glad you said about the background sometimes staying a bit pinkish as i was wondering if that was what made the line appear so quickly or something. You are entirely right about considering a chemical pg its very early days if indeed i am pg just would like to know either way as two negs after a postive can make you feel a bit I cant see how i could have gotten a postive and i think your right that was just a really really concentrated sample and the others werent (they were nohwere near as dark)

I will definately update - I'm a terrible poas addict so will try late tonight and first thing tomorrow until I get either another positive or af gets me.

Don't drink to excess and wait 4 hours till your next wee.

Does look like a pg line and the digi would have said no as the sample wasn't concentrated and they are as you say less sensitive

Well i waited for 4 hours and tested again and nothing I had a look at the test that did look positive and its still weirdly pink in the background whereas all the negs that i have done today arent.

I have a feeling that maybe the dye just flushed through or something and but it was definately weird to see it straight away. I will test one more time in the morning but not holding out much hope as there was a definate line on just that one test and now like 4 negatives will let you know what happens in the morning as if it doesnt show then its never going to iyswim. Thanks for all the advice though

I know the trouble is with this shitty cold i am up and down all night and if i feel the need to go for a wee i cant get back to sleep hence why i have been going about three times a night since i had this cold (plus im really dehydrated with only being able to breathe through my mouth) so i usually drink a fair bit during the night too. I will try and do without a drink or wee tomorrow for as long as poss and see what happens but im not holding out much hope.

Had another look at the positive test again and there is pink dye all the way up to the first line, i dont know how it happened but i think it bled into the test bit or something because it definately does not look like any of the others i have taken.

No it was definately neg Lia, it looked like all the others that were neg, white with a pink single line not even a shadow of another one. Now the supposed postive one is all dried out DH pointed out that there was alot of dye in front of where the line was and that the whole test stayed pink (you can almost see the block of colour in front of the line in the photo - i cant help but think that it was faulty tbh but i sure did think just for a moment that i was - rubbish eh?

not rubbish at all. Did you read my on off saga over the weekend? We can't help it and it's so bloody disappointing when it turns out to be something else.

I just had another look on your picture and ican see what you mean although you can see the line very clearly.

Perhaps it dried too quickly and stayed where it shouldn't have if that makes sense. ( i spend far too much time browsing peeonastick site ) I think that was what happened to mine to give me 2 lines.

Test in morning with fmu and that should be reliable at 2 days to go to period i think

it was a bit crap. We'll all get there i'm sure, ( I have my positive hat on today)

Oh Lia i didnt realise, thought you were still pg - am so surprised that the hormones hung around that long! Oh well its like you say Just have to crack on and hopefully strike lucky this next cycle - im looking at it like that too - i should know better than to get all excited tbh although i have always fancied a December baby

Ok well i am definately not pg, did another this morning and its neg again. As i only have a couple of days to go to AF and no symptoms and no more positives i have to assume that the one that was positive was faulty - like i said there is dye all over the test area and there is a strong pink block of dye just before the 1st line so i cant do much else but think that it is faulty. Very disappointing though, am really glad i took these subseqent tests though as i would have thought i was pg.

Littlesilver said she had an evap line show straight away and i can only think that this was the same sort of thing really, perhaps not an evap line but something like it where the dye caused the line to come up when it shouldnt have. Every other test has been white with one clear pink line.

Its ok - it looked like a postive to me and DH as well but it was obviously just some dodgy dye in the wrong place i think most people would have thought it was a pos.

Lia Ive had two kit kats this morning and feel better already
