How reliable are Ovulation sticks

How reliable are ovulation sticks, I am supposed to be ovulating yesterday and today but tests have come up negative. I am only using the stick once a day. Using Boots own brand. is it true that you are fertile only for one day a month?

I would also recommend the book 'Taking Charge of Your Fertility' by Toni Weschler www.amazon.co.uk/Taking-Charge-Your-Fertility-Reproductive/dp/0091887585 which is a great introduction to fertility awareness. She breaks it all down for you. There are so many opinions about the technicalities of fertility but she covers the bases. It can be very confusing and sometimes distressing.
