Waiting to TTC - short term, non hormonal contraceptive suggestions please?

We are hoping to start TTC in about 5/6 months, and I really want to stop taking my pill.

I'm on Cerazette (progesterone only minipill) and have just been reading about the length of time it can take for cycles to get back to normal, and also I'd like to be able to start charting temps etc so need to get off the pill and get it out of my system.

In these next few months, does anyone have any advice about contraception that shouldn't interfere with my natural cycles?
I know condoms are the obvious, but DH hates them and I have always hated the smell of them. I don't want to use IUDs either.

Any ideas? (suspect there may not be many, the options are actually quite shit aren't they?! )

Thanks in advance

Do you have to wait until 5/6 months or it that because you think you should wait that long for the pill to get out of your system?

Mainly it's financial reasons. DH gets his annual review/hopefully bonus & possible payrise at the start of July, and his company was on the rocks last year, so we are waiting to see what happens then.

If it looks good (i.e. company running more normally) we'll go for it, if not we need to have another think. Don't want to be 2 months pg thinking "shiiiiiit, why did we do that now, should have saved up for another few months!"

Also from what I've been reading, once you stop taking this pill you are supposed to wait until you've had a period before properly trying, and this can apparently take 2-3 months or possibly longer, so need an interim contraception.

There seems also to be some tentative suggestions that not waiting for the first period can increase the chance of early miscarriage if you get pg straight away. Something to do with your body not yet realising it needs to produce progesterone itself, so not having enough to sustain the early part of the pregnancy. At least I think that was the gist of it - I've been on a sharp learning curve!

I'm impatient essentially, I don't want to wait til July, decide to go for it and then have to do the whole folic acid, waiting for first periods etc, I want to get a headstart if I can

Since I've come off the pill, we've used condoms and although not highly romantic during the throws of passion, they're reliable and simple and don't have any homronal effects obviously. If it's only for a while, then I reckon they're the easy option.
Abstenance??? Only joking - or you could only have sex once a month for the next six months and then you'd only need to use condoms 6 times!

I'll suggest that to DH, he'll be thrilled ... not!

Thanks though, I suspected that might be the case, ho hum. Tis only for a short time after all

Bring on the male pill I reckon!

How about a diaphram? Old fashioned, but easy to put in/leave in and forget about... non hormonal too. Although you do have to be OK with shoving your hand up your bits to get it in the right place

I have used a diaphram for years and would really recommend it. The trick is to find a nurse or FP clinic who really believe in them and are confident in recommending them and in their use. I have been told all sorts of crap over the years when I've moved Drs etc. The last time I went to the clinic, they used me as test case as I was such a rareity! They are so easy and unobtrusive and really easy to use once you know how. I have always liked the fact it's completely natural and you are not taking loads of hormones for what is in fact a short window of being fertile.
