Ectopic/cyst?

Hello, had a scan this morning due to having weak BFP's and aching pains in my lower back and right side. I should be just under 5wks pregnant. The doctor said he couldn't rule out an ectopic pregnancy as nothing could be seen in my uterus only a fluid filled mass near my right overy. They've taken blood today and will again on thurs to see what my hcg is doing. I just wanted to ask has anyone else had an early scan where nothing at all could be seen not even a sac and then gone on to still be pregnant. Could the mass be a cyst and the scan too early, or is the mass more likely to be the ep. Does that make sense I'm not sure, I've read about tube rupture and how dangerous it is and am really worried. Thanks .

Hiya. I'm currently going through endless tests for this. I had a scan last week, should be around 6 weeks but nothing on the scan except cysts on my ovaries. Did they not tell you what the mass was? I was explicitly told I had 2 ovarian cysts.

I've been told it's very unlikely that I will have a successful pregnancy but my HCG levels keep rising, hence the hunt for the pregnancy. I have another scan tomorrow so we will see what happens then. I don't want to rule out all hope because you are earlier than I am, but I equally don't want to give you false hope. I hope it ends up being good news for you.

Please don't worry too much about the possibility of ectopic. You're being monitored closely, which is good. If there's nothing showing up on the scan right now then you shouldn't suddenly find yourself in trouble. They have time to work out what is going on. In the meantime, if you get ANY pain at all, including shouldertip pain, go straight to A&E and don't wait around.

But don't panic too much, I've been dealing with this for nearly 2 weeks now and have not had to rush to A&E yet. Good luck!

Also, you are still early to show up on a scan. Dates are from your last period, if you ovulated late you might only be 3/4 weeks pregnant. Do you know what your HCG level is? I was told that after 2000 something should really show up on a scan. I passed that on Sunday so really hope they'll be able to tell me something tomorrow. I'm prepared for the worst, but the not knowing is hell.

Thanks for the quick reply, sorry you're going through similar, I hate not knowing what's going on. They didn't tell me anything about the mass I was reading what the doctor was writing . I did spot the words corpus luteum which is a cyst (i think) but it was also described as a fluid filled mass, so I think they were not sure what it was for now.

Good luck for tomorrow Muser, hope you get good news. No idea what my hcg was today they did another preg test and it was feint so hcg was low. (although it was a lot darker than my hpt from Sunday)

The corpus luteum is what produced progesterone in early pregnancy, it disappears if fertilisation doesn't happen. It is a cyst, but very important to have.

Find out what your HCG levels are, ask them next time. In a healthy pregnancy they should roughly double every 2 days (I say roughly, anything above 60% is considered fine). I'd also ask about your progesterone. They suspect ectopic in me because my HCG was rising and my progesterone was low. Low progesterone can suggest ectopic or just a failing pregnancy.
