Hi, I know this is a strange question but what do they class as "your first day of your period"?? Is it the first day of spotting or the first day of a proper bleed? This is the first month I am trying to get pregnant and have read so much about ovulation dates being based around "first day of your period". I'm so confused!

Your first day of a period is the first day of a proper bleed.

BTW spotting between periods, if consistently happening, should be investigated further.

I have heard people say that it is the first day of spotting and others that it is the first proper day of bleeding, I take it as first day of proper bleeding. I think it's more important to be aware of when you're fertile rather than counting cycle days so keep an eye out for EWCM (Egg White Cervical Mucus) and if you can possibly bear it have a prod of your cervix, general rule of thumb is if it's high and hard like the end of your nose you're not in your peak fertile time, if it is lower and softer like your lip then you should be going for it!

Some women get other signs of being fertile, for me it is increased libido, sensitive nipples and a windy tummy!

Why not join us on the November bus for conversations about general TTC and, umm, alcoholic baking at the moment actually!

Good luck!

I'm wondering the same thing too and have posted a couple of places about it. Does "mid-cycle spotting" include two days before AF? Is it really something to be concerned about as I have always had it. I get two days of little spots, then 2 days of peak flow then two more days of spotting. I've just put myself and the other half on a healthy eating/no alcohol regime with supplements in the hope of conceiving in three months or so. I know it won't work out like that but there's no harm trying!

Good question Ariesgirl. I have started the same healthy eating/no alcohol regime and have just arrived back home from the gym! Am too knackered to TTC tonight! The irony! Have you started on the folic acid yet? We are 2 months into a plan of conception. No joy yet but we will keep trying. As a fellow aries girl I'll keep my fingers crossed for you aswell.

Thanks Amylou - you too (that rhymes!). Oh yes, am on the folic acid. And the rest...
