Hi all, feeling a little better today. Had a bbq at my parents house with other family n friends and it really took my mind off things and helped me relax (the cheeky vimtos might have had something to do with it though haha).
How has everyones weekend been? The weathers been lovely, its about time we had some decent weather .
Back to docs on 11th may to see what next step is, the nurse said IVF would be the next step so we'll see.
Good luck to all ttc xxx

beckylou85 · 11/04/2010 18:33

Hi stac the name i really like for a girl is Sophie Louise. thats actually the name that we have chosen for WHEN we have a baby (if its a girl)

Clure · 11/04/2010 18:50

stac, apart from my DD's name which is a lovely scottish name and DH's Gran's name(goes well with my DH's scottish surname) my fave girls names at the mo are:
Ava
Martha
Annie (this was my 2nd choice for DD and my grandmothers name)
Niamh
Eleri (welsh name)

did my half marathon 2hrs 16mins, took it a bit easier but quad muscle held out, had 3 mighty bad stitches but managed to breathe through them and run them off. Feeling good and not too tired. Have just rewarded myself with a vegan pizza cooked jointly between DH, DD and myself!
hope all enjoying weekend x

babyfrankie · 11/04/2010 19:03

hi everyone, new to this thread, on my second cycle of clomid, does anyone know what the success rates are? feeling a little on my own, dont know if anyone else feel like just a number at the hospital? how long should we try with clomid for before ivf? 1st cycle had horrible side affects, jittery, hot sweats, cramps mid cycle feeling better this cycle, is this normal?

Ladybird10 · 11/04/2010 19:55

Hi All

Becky sorry af got you, sounds like you had fun at the bbq, cheeky vimtos are always a good drink to cheer you up.

Deb hope your ok, hopefully it will get easier for you, think of all the nice memories of you friend. It's always so sad when someone close dies young, i lost my dad when i was 16 and still think about him every day. Keep your chin up xx

Fairy hope you had fun dog sitting.

Clure very impressed with your half marathon, and such gorgeous weather for it.

Stac hope your ok, bet your not looking forward to being heavily pg in the hot weather, all worth it in the end though. We've also chosen the name for our baby girl, if we have one. We both agree on Ruby and the middle name Grace

Welcome babyfrankie i've read that the success rate is about 45% for couples trying for 6 months using clomid. It does work for a lot of people but hasn't worked for a few of us on here. The side effects i had were hot sweats in the night and terrible ovulation pain to the point where it hurt to walk. Hope it works for you.

Hi to everyone else

xxxx

Fairygodmother1 · 11/04/2010 20:07

ARRGGHH!! I lost my post!

Welcome Babyfrankie. How much have you been given? The first month is rough. Take the tablets at night so you don't notice the effects, the do get better.

I was on clomid for 6 months, now waiting for IVF. Don't know what the success rate nationally is but it's not great on this tread...

Stac here's some suggestions of names I like but have already picked our names so your entitled to any of these - Mia, Katherine, Georgia, Keeley, Kirsten...I think of some more!

Dog sitting is going well. I was horribly ill last night but I think it was something I ate!

OP posts:
babyfrankie · 11/04/2010 20:58

ladybird10 thanks for coming back to me, 45% is higher than I guessed-great news.thank you
where are you with your journey?

fairygodmother1 50mg, for 3 cycles. I had a bloodtest at day 21 last cycle that said that i ovulated (getting the results was like blood from stone). will try taking at night thanks for the tip. if it doesnt work by 3 cycles is ivf a jump too fast? great news on your ivf step

Ladybird10 · 11/04/2010 21:14

Babyfrankie i found that on a website, it said that 80% of women will ovulate on clomid and about 45% will get pg within 6 months of taking it. I was on clomid for 3 months but stopped taking it because of the painful ovulation, plus i already ovulate on my own so thought it was pointless taking it, we are having iui when af arrives which should be in a couple of weeks. This is our 20th month trying. I will have to start clomid again when iui begins along with injections, this is so ovulation will happen when the clinic want it to happen, not looking forward to starting it again
I agree with fairy thats it's best to take clomid at night so you sleep through most of the side effects.

babyfrankie · 11/04/2010 21:52

Thanks for the info Ladybird10, has an nhs doctor referred you for iui? i have my next consultant appointment in may and am wondering what the next steps are likely to be and if i could ask for iui/ivf? if they are likely to say yes? or if i will have to think about private? good luck with the clomid and injections..it not nice knowing the side affects are coming..big hug

Fairygodmother1 · 11/04/2010 22:09

baby depends on how old you are. lets just say my last app with cons was 2 months ago & I'm still chasing the referral so prob not. Clomid made me ovulate but we still didn't end up pg & I know DH is fine!

this thread doesn't have high success rates either....

OP posts:
babyfrankie · 11/04/2010 22:24

Fairygodmother1
Under 30, Oh my god that is so annoying..what is dh?

Clure · 12/04/2010 14:56

aaaaargh!
Fairy - I am joining you in the frustrations of the referral chasing.
So annoyed, saw my GP today to ask what was going on with referral. It hasn;t even been made he said they needed a consultant name to refer me to. When I spoke to GP secretary about 6 weeks ago she didn;t mention this and said she would be taking care of doing to paperwork. Gp didn;t know anything about this. Flipping incompetence!!!
Anyway have now just got onto Guys and had a chat, they were a bit more helpful. I have a consultant name for the referral but now need to get my consultant here at my local hospital to make the referral so that he can send all my notes and test results on. Its a minefield!!

sorry for that HUGE moan, finished now.

how are you all? big wave to you all. my legs are very stiff after my half marathon, just trying to get down stairs without huffing and puffing with pain! (that'll teach me!!)

welcome babyfrankie (dh is abbreviation for dear husband) Its good that you are being monitored with the day 21 bloodtest and that it shows you are ovulating, it may be that the clomid will give your system the kickstart it needs, so hopefully things might start to happen for you, you may find that if the 50mg doesn;t work they may increase it to 100mg.

stac14 · 12/04/2010 16:48

Afternoon all

Thanks for the lovely baby name suggestions

fairy cant think of any initial I cant use, dps surname starts with M but ds's name is JJ so doesnt matter

clure dp has quite a scottish surname too but loads of names seem to go lol. What shoddy treatment for you and fairy regarding your referals, the ttc service is seriously lacking in framework. We should all get together and put the suggestions down on paper for the NHS

beckylou I love Sophie too but its DPs friends lo's name

lady would love to call her Grace but its mil's name and she wont let me argh lol

Welcome babyfrankie I always took clomid at night because I got horrible side effects and that seemed to lessen them

How is everyone? I have noted down all the names you have gave me for dp to see, (dont show him mn, none of his businees) Keep them coming lol xxx

Ladybird10 · 12/04/2010 20:08

Baby the consultant referred us for iui, he tried me on the clomid first and then i went back 3 months later and he told me i can have 3 x iui on the nhs and 1 free IVF, he said i could go straight to IVF as the success rate is higher but i said i would try the 3 iui first as its less invasive and if they don't work then i will have the ivf.
If the clomid doesn't work for you after 3 months then they might refer you for iui or ivf, it's a postcode lottery as to whether you will get the treatment free or not, how long have you been trying?

Clure it's not good that you have to chase for something to be done, these clinics are useless, the people working there obviouly have never had problems ttc, if they had then they might hurry things along a bit more.

Stac hope you decide on a nice name, i also don't show dp mn. Sometimes think it would be easier to be a man, they don't have the worry's like we do about ttc.

xxx

babyfrankie · 12/04/2010 21:04

Ladybird10 I hope that's what happens to me after 3 months, my next consultant appointment is on the 1st june (if not successful before). 18 months so far.. when is your first iui treatment? is there a way you can check on allocation by postcode?good luck

clure, i agree, the waiting on someone else is very annoying, you feel so out of control and helpless

stac they say you should pick a name that works as a poet, a lawyer and a rock star...are there any good names in the family?

xx

beckylou85 · 13/04/2010 00:02

Hi all, ladybird i've been ttc for almost 5 years, been on clomid for 6months it works but not managed to get pregnant. i have now got a month without anything until i go back next month. I'm not sure what the next step is going to be for me. DP is fine. Do you have to qualify for IUI on NHS like you have to for IVF? I don't think i'll get anythng on the NHS as DP's kids live with us so were already classed as a 'family'.
How is everyone?
Good luck to all ttc xxx

stac14 · 13/04/2010 11:44

becky it would be different if they were your kids, i was told if i didnt have any kids i would have got help. So i'm sure you will be offered more assistance.

lady don't think men would cope, dp was totally certain he had no probs in that department so if it had been him he would have freaked lol

baby family is full of old fashioned names like euphamia, betty, willamena and marys. Very scottish lmao. Im sure we will get something. I must add thats great great aunts lol x

Ladybird10 · 13/04/2010 19:53

Baby our treatment will start as soon as af arrives which should be next Friday, once i have taken clomid and injections then they should do the insemination fisrt week of may, we're cutting it a bit fine though as we go abroad on the 8th May so if af doesnt arrive by next Friday then we wouldn't be able to have it as would be on holiday when they want to do the procedure, so if that happens then we will have it at the start of June, fingers crossed my period comes on time and we can do it in May I's sure you will be offered iui or ivf as the next step, i thought thats what happens to most couples after they have tried clomid. Could be wrong though. Just going on what i've heard.
I'm not sure if there is a way to check your postcode. Hopefully clomid will work for you.

Becky i'm sure your next step would also be iui or ivf, i wouldn't have thought it would matter that your dp's kids live with you, you still want a baby of your own so surely the clinic should give you iui/ivf on the nhs. I thought they only refuse to help on the nhs if you have children of your own or if your in the wrong postcode area.

Stac i don't think my dp would cope if he had a problem, luckily he's fine, well he was on the first test, he's just got to repeat the test to make sure he is still ok before we have iui.
Willamena - That is a very old fashioned name

Hope everyone is ok xxxx

stac14 · 13/04/2010 20:50

lady defo not using any of the names i mentioned lol x

Fairygodmother1 · 13/04/2010 21:40

Hi girlies,

Need support (crying out for help quite literally - seem to be hiding it well tho). I completely broke down last night. DH had no clue what to do & even my best friend couldn't say anything to comfort me.
Today I've spent with the fam but managed to keep my chin up, but feel totally rotten again tonight. Can't even explain what, why, how is going on in my head. I don't think it's all about ttc but know it's a major part. I know PCOS can also make you feel really depressed but It's not even that. I just don't know. My niece had written me a card about what she did on holiday & that was what made me initially start crying then the flood gates opened.

Has anyone else felt this low & what did you do about it???

Oh DH deposited his 'goods' off to be analysed for ivf referral today!

CareBear1 · 13/04/2010 22:14

Fairy, i can totally sympathise with how your feeling. i've had some really black days where i've honestly just felt like if there was a door that i could just walk through and everything just stopped and it would all be over i would be sorely tempted.

i have to say that what's totally got me feeling myself again is picking up swimming again just because its something i've always been good at, has nothing to do with this whole nightmare, and just makes me feel like my body works, if you know what i mean. i don't think it matters what it is, but i would say pick something totally unrelated to ttc that you're really good at that people will notice you're good at, like cooking or something, and get some positivity coming from another direction.

hmm, well anyway thats as far as my pearl of wisdom for the day will stretch. bit tired now so off to bed but will try to respond to other peep's posts soon,

hope you're all well,

x

CareBear1 · 14/04/2010 16:41

Thanks for your support ladies re the hen do - I was actually really proud of myself as managed to stay genuinely interested and happy for them throughout (a fair bit) of baby chat without letting my brain vere off into 'it will never happen to me mode'. wonder why its easier some times and others its like a million daggers through the heart? totally enjoyed the 'well done' easter egg to myself on sunday!

Lady - thanks for your support hon. The sticks I used were clearblue ones. And yes totally agree those who've tried for a long time and then get pg totally seem to deserve it more to me! Good luck for the treatment.

Popsy - ignore anyone being mean, what a . 36 is still young in my book. hope it goes well at weight watchers.

Becklou - sorry to hear af got you, hope your next doc appointment is helpful.

Deb - sorry you not been feeling good hon, again i would recommend trying the peeing on the sticks- cuts out all the wondering of when o'v is happening.

Stac - hope all is going well.

Clure - am v impressed at your half marathon time. can't believe you had to chase that much, do people not think for themselves. definately keep chasing!

Babyfrankie - think it depends on where you are and what your symptoms are etc - I was told today that i'd probably go through 12 months of clomid before they'd look at ivf.

Well I had my consultant appointment today (well registrar) and once again it was someone I've never seen before, however I have come to the conclusion that this might be a good thing: The last guy I saw was convinced Clomid was my answer and I didn't really have much wrong other than blocked tube (which he said was 'why god in his infinite wisdom created 2 tubes' and I didn't need to know why it was blocked), the lady before that was convinced it was PCOS and today, the registrar was convinced it was NOT PCOS and most likely endo! She however thinks its VERY important to find out why a tube is blocked (me too!) so she has referred me for a Lap and Dye. Am thinking that if I see enough different doctors who all have different views then surely eventually I will get to a proper diagnosis and not be quite so in limbo land not knowing what's going on. Here's hoping. Plus I didn't see that idiot consultant from last time who made me cry, which was a bonus, so feeling fairly cheerful oddly.

sorry to go on. During the lap and dye apparantly if they see endo tissue or blockages they try and remove what they can. have any of you been diagnosed with endo and if so any pearls of wisdom?

hope you're all well,

x
