Will he give up??

rabbit54 · 01/02/2010 15:33

He would never give up but may cut down. I asked him to not smoke for a week in the peak time of my cycle for conception and he said he wouldnt. my concern is not only the ability to conceive but harmful affects to sperm?

i am sorry to sound like a b.i.t.c.h

but if he can not give up smoking hash for a few week is it really worth having a child with him.

i would think of the long term situation...if you get pregnant would he be able to support you in labour or be hashed up.

i don't belive a child should be bought into a world of drugs

So here are my answers - Recent research on human sperm has suggested that marijuana has an effect on sperm motility, and on the ability of sperm to move in a straight line. But there still hasn't been any solid or convincing scientific research that proves either way whether smoking marijuana really reduces a couples chances of conceiving.
It'll take at least a month to get all traces of the drug out of your system and it takes three months to complete a new cycle of sperm production

Hi ratbbit54 my DH smokes everyday too, i don't think it's as easy as asking him to give up for a few days, it all comes down to why he does it. My DH has a lot of personal problems and says when the time's right he'll speak to someone. I've read up on it and even though everyone says it's not physically addictive (i.e no physical symptoms on going cold turkey) it is definately mentally addictive (i.e behavioural changes on going cold turkey).

The other thing is, make sure you ask advice from people who actually understand its effects, as most people associate it with a teenage like use, as if they do it for fun or to get 'stoned' and laugh too much.
My DH certainly doesnt do it for that, he hates it, but needs to everyday. When he doesn't have any, he has mood swings, his stress levels go up, he gets more depressed, doesn't eat or sleep properly, and is generally a bit of a git! When he smokes he's just normal, not 'hashed up' or stupid.

As for TTC I think to take an effect on the quality and motility of sperm cells, he would need to stop for at least a couple of months even just cigarettes it needs at least 6 weeks.

Hi LaRagazzaInglese my DP gets a little depression and defo morose and is not very good with responsibility, but is an EXCELLENT father. For instance I went away for the weekend and my DP took our two year old swimming, to a farm to see farm animals, a party and to the park. I think I just have to wait a little and see if I can get pregnant while he is smoking. He only smokes a little in the evening.
