Natural Conception after IVF?

Just wondering if any MNetters have themselves had IVF success then got pg a second time naturally?
If you have, then what was your original reason for needing IVF and why do you think it worked naturally second time round?
Any advice / tips?

I'm hopeful but sceptical!

My friend did. I don't know the reasons for IVF etc and not in direct contact anymore to ask her, sorry, but just wanted to say she did have a ds a year or so later after dd, so not all is lost!

Anyone else?

My SIL went through several cycles of IVF which all ended in failure. She had to have this due to scarred fallopian tubes and also one that had burst due to ectopic pg. So she was a bit of a mess in there....

Anyway, they ran out of money for IVF after 3 or 4 tries and started thinking about adoption. It was a long process, they had huge forms to fill, interviews etc. After 6 months of this she felt poorly and thought it was the stress of the adoption process.

But she was pregnant with my nephew Dominic! She was 42 when she gave birth to him and he is their miricle child.

Hi, I got pregnant naturally after having IVF with my first DD. Both my tubes were blocked, so only IVF was the option for me to have a baby at the time. I was extremely lucky also to get pregnant with the first treatment.
When my DD was 1 years old I found out I was pregnant (naturally)! I got pregnant naturally 3 times after that.
When I asked the doctors how that could have happened, one doctor assumed that my blockage was a spasm (temporary blockage) and the doctor who treated me didn't think that was the case and said that he can't really know and that sometimes pregnancy and birth changes things in our system... I never invastigated it. I just thanked my good luck!

Good luck! I hope everything goes your way!

Thanks for responding. Think we'll give it 6months (ie save up ££££!) and then consider the intervention options again.

saladdays, I had DS1 after three attempts at IVF (2 m/cs first). Had to have IVF cos of blocked tubes.

DS2 conceived naturally when DS1 was only 7 months old - hadn't been using any contraception cos told we couldn't conceive naturally!

Good luck .

Not me personally - but Jamie and Jools Oliver conceived their 2nd & 3rd naturally after IVF for the first.

A friend had her first through IVF and then her second was conceived naturally 5 years later

My chum had no 1 with IVF and no 2 was conceived naturally, she had low fertility and poor quality eggs, but she also joked (I think) that first time round they weren't actually having much sex either...!

spongebrainbigpants · 25/01/2010 19:53

The Olivers didn't have IVF, they used clomid.

Just happened to a friend of mine. Her IVF twins are just 1. She is the happiest person in the world.

neolara · 25/01/2010 20:05

I know a couple of people this happened to. One mum got pregnant naturally only a few months after having triplets. Yikes!

skihorse · 26/01/2010 08:00

spongebraine Ah! The curse of the newspapers then - unable to differentiate between IVF and fertility aids! Sorry for my misinformation!

MummyElk · 26/01/2010 08:20

i know OF a couple (through a friend) who conceived their twins naturally within a year of having their twins through IVF (gulp...two sets of twins under a year)... sounds like an urban myth but isn't. And - needless to say - they are tired but happy!!

spongebrainbigpants · 26/01/2010 13:07

Lol skihorse, easy mistake to make - she does bang on about "all the fertility tx she had" when actually it took her a year to conceive her first which is not actually that long .

Sorry, not a big fan!

mummyelk, ohmigod!

I'm over the moon (and still amazed) we finally managed to have one child - still pondering whether we should try for a second as the monthly heartache of ttc #1 was overwhelming. I think it is hard not to slip back into the intense cycle monitoring habit that became the norm for four years. Hmmm.
