OMG - last night the condom broke! It was the day after my period and my cycle is only about 22 days(about day 6), please tell me that there's enough spermicide on these things to stop anything happening. Apologies to those trying to conceive but it really would be a disaster for us (3 ds's aged 9,7 and 19months, trying to sell up and move back to the UK, and I'm also 41)

Just get the morning-after pill to put your mind at rest (assuming it's available in Austria). You can take it up to three days after the event I seem to remember.

Defo emeregency contraception (it's not supposed to be called morning after pill any more as you have three days to take it, it's a misnomer!) or a coil fitting, as unfortunately the timing of it means is probably reasonably near your ovulation due to your short cycles (luteal phase post ov is constant and usually 12-16 days) meaning you may ovulate on around day 10- sperm can live in body for up to a week and will wait at top of Fallopian tube for ovulation. Your womb lining would also have chance to thicken back up in that time too. So although there is around a 20% chance of getting pregnant this time (the average every month if you have sex near ov!) if being pregnant again isn't an option then defo emergency contraception (up to 72 hours after) or a coil fitting (which can be done up to 5 days after unprotected sex)
good luck.

Get the MAP today, you might need to go to your GP to get it. I guess that it would be unlikely for you to get pregnant on day 6, but if you really don't want to be pregnant, then don't take the chance.

And no defo isn't enough spermicide on them to stop it happening. Although douching after such an accident is never recommended, sometimes you can try and squueze as much semen out by "bearing down" in the loo and then inserting a great big dollop of spermicide but again that isn't as effective as emergency contraception

Thanks everyone, have made an appointment with the Dr this morning, feels strange to take precautions after the event
