I'm doing my ovulation tests every morning and they are all negative... This is terryfying!! Does this mean I'm not ovulating / infertile??

I should be ovulating tomorrow according to my cycle so shouldn't it be positive?

I'm having very low down stomach twinges that I thought were ovulation pains...

I stopped smoking but I am overweight... Could this be why?

Any help would be much appreciated! I'm super panicking here!

I did these tests faithfully for the month we were ttc our second child, and they were all negative. Was worried like you so imagine my surprise when the pregnancy test came up positive at the end of the month...tbh, I think they can help people who have been trying for a long time and have aquired loads of expert knowledge on how to track cycles etc but for the rest of us I think they're an expensive gimmick. (eg I think I rememeber that it makes more sense to test at night for some reason? But it didn't mention this on the packet I bought). Best of luck!

Hi giraffe - you have my sympathy; I know exactly how you feel! See my recent thread

You shouldn't use ovulation sticks until at least after lunch. I think 3-8pm is meant to be the best time? (not sure, I'm a novice user).

Anyway, the hormone doesn't appear in your urine until later on in the day so if you're testing first thing this could well be why you're getting negatives.

BabyValentine · 21/01/2010 11:43

Aha! That would explain a lot, Shona.

Good luck giraffe, but might be worth asking your gp for hormone tests. I bought a shed load of OTs on the internet - my cycle has always been highly erratic at best so not easy to determine best TTC - and decided I'd been done cos they were always negative. Turned out I have a cocktail of disasters for my insides (polycystic ovaries, endometriosis, no eggs most of the time, only crap eggs even if they turned up, crap womb lining that would'nt allow implantation, unspecified 'other') and we ended up on the road for IVF plus an unholy quantity of additional drugs in the end.

I'm NOT saying that this is you, but it might be worth nipping down the quack for blood tests - Day 7 and Day 21 and they measure for FSH levels etc. Because that was when stuff got flagged for me. All of which will put your mind at rest that no problems; you will relax, get drunk, and get all gooey with the other half and then who knows.....? Nod's as good as a

Thanks everyone... I feel a lot better now

I might just ditch the tests for a while and BD through the month the old fashioned way!
