Hi

Had some really bad news today. My partner's Normal Form Sperm count is only 3% when it should be more than 15%.

Results like this:

Volume 5 (fine)
Concentration or count 36.5million/mil (ok but not great)
Motility 55% (fine)
Normal Forms 3% AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!(shock)

The summary also says there is a significan level of inflammatory cells in the sample too. What does that mean?

We're being referred to ferility specialist but I know I'll go mad waiting. I'm 37 and DP is 41.

Can anyone who's been through this let me know what to expect?

My DH had his sperm counted and it was only 5% - our GP said we should just keep trying for a while before going to see a specialist.

We now have 3 DC's!!

Sorry I cant give any advice re the specialist but just wanted to give you a positive story to hopefully make you feel a bit less worried.

Hi my dp had a count of only 1% then 2% normal forms, so really bad. We were told our chances of conceiving naturally were less han 1% and to go for ICIS (injected sperm IVF) anyway I googled sperm morphology and followed some of the tips on supplements(there is loads of info out there) and 6 months later I found out I was pregnant with ds.

Abnormal forms (or morphology) is one of the easier problems to improve apparently, and as I say there is loads on the internet about it. Look out for a supplement called pycnongel (sp?) I think that is the miracle stuff. HTH

I know dh's was really low, ICSI was just being developed in Italy and we were told it would never be available in the UK or Ireland, adoption was the way forward. We have also 3 kids now. We both had homeopathic treatment, I have no idea if it helped or not but we felt we were doing something. And as aomeone pointed out, many men have children without ever having their sperm counted! Stick with it, listen to the specialists, if you have an irrational feeling that you'd like to try an alternative therapy, a cruise, buying a cat or something, do it! And if anyone says 'Just relax and it will happen' - send thema mental slap. Good luck, I hope things go well for you.

Thanks. I will keep hoping. Will ask him to cut down on booze but he doesn't drink much when he's with me but does have the odd "binge" session with the boys. This often means a couple bottles of red wine!
I wish I could trust him to just "have a few beers" when he's out on his own with them, but he doesn't seem able to control it. I've asked hi to cut it out altogether over dinner this evening but the response I got was "I will cut down but I'm not putting my life on hold". Mmmmmmmmm.
