Hi, just after your thoughts please. We are thinking of trying to conceive in the next few months and wondering if I should have the swine flu jab?
Have read a few articles and they have just made me worry, but not really help me decide what to do.
Thanks in adavance

I can't find the answer to this either... Can't have it before pg, but don't want it in the first 12 weeks... ho hum

Hi there - on the BBC this morning, a fairly senior and authoritative doctor was saying how the swine flu epidemic had been greatly exaggerated, and that they were now focusing on treating injuries from the elderly who'd hurt themselves/got hypothermia in the snow (and de-prioritising swine flu).

She did reiterate that it does affect pregnant women badly - but the overall impression I had was that the threat wasn't really any greater than for ordinary flu.

I won't have it (despite being asthmatic too) - herd immunity and all that!

That being said if you do decide to have it I've read in more than place that it's harmless.

I told doctor I was ttc and she checked I hadn't missed a period yet and agreed I could have it, I I had the jab beginning December I think. I prefer the idea of having it before actually pg, as I could. Now I'm ttc knowing I don't have to decide once I get pg!
So ask your dr, and if they say no ask another one ;) I didn't make an appointment, just phoned to ask.
Good luck!

Ah, ladies, thanks for getting back to me. I went to see Dr and explained I was TTC, but not pregnant yet and wanted to know possibly have the swine flu jab. Well talk about being made to look silly...The Dr practically scoffed, said it was not necessary and that I was being over cautious. I explained I am a primary school teacher who works across the school (500+ pupils) and not a class teacher and so come into a lot of contact with children etc. He didn't seem bothered. I was in and out of dr's within 5 mins max.
So all in all not any the wiser. May phone and see if I can speak to a nurse, but maybe I am over worrying. Oh I don't know [indecisive face].
Good to hear what you are doing etc.
Good luck.
