Is it possible to get a period without ovulating?

This maybe a very dumb question.

Is it possible to get a period without ovulating?

I had always thought not and had assumed that a period meant you MUST have ovulated, but I am curious... since monitoring/taking notice of my cycles, I find that I get my period really pretty regularly and, often, have significant amounts of EWCM around day 12/13/14... and, as night follows day, my period appears 14 days later. But, some months I seem to get no EWCM and yet still get an otherwise completely "normal" period at the normal time. Am I still ovulating during those months?

(Curious becasue this month mas been a no EWCM month and am on the 2ww now, so am trying not to get my hopes up! )

Yes that's possible, and I think it's normal to miss the odd ovulation, but if you are worried, you should speak to your GP.

It's also possible that you are ovulating but not having much EWCM due to other factors - diet for example.

Good luck with this month. I think it is possible to have periods without ovulating, I'm sure that in Taking Charge of Your Fertility (fantastic book if you haven't read it do, lent my copy out so can't check this) she talks of anovulary cycles. It took me 2 years from miscarriage to concieving my dd and during that time I'm sure I wasn't ovulating because my boobs didn't get tender before a period, which they always had done before the first pregnancy. The time between them starting to be tender again and us concieving was only a few months.

It is certainly possible to have periods without ovulating.
