Day 3/Day 21 blood results advice please!

Hi all, I was just looking for a bit of advice as I have recently had the results of my day 3 & 21 day blood tests. My LH & FSH levels were 4.9 & 4.3 which I think is ok. I'm a bit confused about my progesterone result from day 21 which was 54.2, I think this means I ovulated but have no idea of its high/normal ?! I also had a testosterone level of 1.2.

Im only asking as I only got the results from my docs receptionist and she couldn't really explain them to me but said there was no need to book an appointment with my doctor. I have tried googling the results but tbh it just made me a bit more confused! I thought there might be someone out there who has been through the same thing and can shed some light for me.

Thank you...

Hi, I have had all these done recently and from what I understand from fertility clinic, FSH and LH are best if they're about the same so yours sound great. My FSH was 6.6 and LH 1.5 but dr still said they're fine. I think and FSH under 6 though is 'excellent'.

For progestorone, anything over 30 means you've definitely ovulated so you're good there too. Mine was 85 which the dr said may mean I hatched 2 eggs that month!! Didn't get pg though.

Good luck ttc

Don't know about the testostorone. Have you had oestradial tested? That's the other one they look for on day 3.

Thanks for your reply - im not sure about the oestradial test (what is this for?), although I probably did have it if it's a standard one done on day 3. The receptionist was reluctant to give me any results and just said 'its all fine' so I had to push her a bit just to get the exact figures! wishing you luck for ttc too.

Hi gembay

Speaking as someone who has been through umpteen rounds of these blood tests I think you can be very pleased with these results. I believe, your LH & FSH are normal indicating that hormonal problems like PCOS are v unlikely and that you are v unlikely to be perimenopausal; Testosterone is normal (nice and low) also indicated PCOS unlikely; Progesterone indicates a good ovulation around about CD14...

Hope that helps

Thanks for the reassurance destiny - I was actually being tested for PCOS as my sister has it & my periods can be slightly irregular, so I am pleased with these results. have been 'seeing what happens' since May, and the answer was nothing happened so was getting a bit worried. however we are properly TTC now so keeping my fingers crossed.
Love mumsnet - can get more help/info here than from my docs surgery!

Hi gembay

Have you had an ultrasound scan to check your ovaries too?

I have PCOS - if your sister has it you have a 50% chance of having it too. Your results are VERY reassuring as everyone has said... but if you have not conceived it might be worth repeating them - esp the progesterone test - to check that you are ovulating every month rather than some months but not others (which can happen with PCOS). Women with PCOS do sometimes have normal results on hormone tests (though with testosterone as low as yours, I seriously doubt it!) BUT women with PCOS who ovulate regularly-ish generally have a very good chance of conceiving just like a 'normal' woman.

Good luck, I hope your BFP is just around the corner...

Yes I had an ultrasound scan a couple of weeks ago, and the nurse said she couldnt see anything. I will ask the doc about repeating the progesterone test though just to be sure. I was almost convinced I did have PCOS as I know it can be genetic, and my periods can be slightly irregular and I also have a bit of excess hair, so i will be keeping a close eye on things..
