Is this what they call irregular periods!??

Hi mumsnetters! I was wondering if you can help. I have has mirena removed september and since then have had 26, 36, 29 and now 26 day cycles. Would you call this irregular? I did think that when it got to 29 (about usual for me before mirena) that it would setttle down, but AF just arrived three days early.

Do you think this could be a symptom of something that may be stopping me concieve?

Hi there, i never know what length my cycles are going to be, from what I understand these are irregular cycles but they are not in themselves something that would stop you from conceiving. I worry about this too, you start to grab at straws after a while don't you? However, as long as you are ovulating and you have a luteal phase of 10 days+ I don't think the length of the cycles themselves will stop you from conceiving. I had a blood test to confirm that I was ovulating as my cycles range from 30 days to 36 days typically and this month it looks like it will be a 42 day one. I have wondered if they were a symptom of something else but I don't have anything else to go on apart from irregular cycle length so I don't know if it's something I could go to the doctor with.

A "normal" cycle is a cycle length of between 21 and 35 days OR with a variation of less than 4 days from month to month. Looking at your cycles therefore, the first three would be seen as irregular.

Consistently irregular periods can be problematic when ttc as a person is less likely to be ovulating regularly if at all.

I would have blood tests done to see what your hormone levels are like. A useful blood test is the day 2 when your LH and FSH levels are checked and compared against each other. Normally these two levels are the same; an imbalance of LH to FSH may be indicative of a hormonal problem called polycystic ovaries. LH and FSH are two very important hormones as they kickstart the ovulation process.
